to be really careful
about what meds I take because I am having surgery on tuesday.
I want my mom to be here and make me a pot of tea and some
soft boiled eggs and bundle me up on the sofa.
I can do all these things but moms do them better.
Tomorrow is Mother's Day, give your mom a break... consider
yourself lucky you still have a mom. Get on the phone right
now and send your mom a big bouquet of flowers... don't you
dare call her to whine about your widdle sniffles.

Exactly...
Sheldon is SO right!
My old stick blender gave out because I was using
it a couple times a day due to recent oral surgery
to remove two troublesome wisdom teeth. After
reading the recent thread on stick blenders,
I bought one of the recommended ones -- the Braun
with the chopper and other accessories. I was
so pleased with it, I bought another one to give
to Mom tomorrow. I don't think she has any teeth
left. I've got all of mine (except three wisdom
teeth), so my dental problems will soon be resolved,
but I learned to appreciate the importance of a
stick blender when you're dentally challenged.
I briefly considered Sheldon's recommendation
of the Waring immersion blenders, and I bid on
(but did not win) a nice 14" unit on eBay.
But it's a good thing I didn't win it. The
Braun has a 400W motor in a handy compact form
factor, which is pretty much ideal for home use.
It's far more powerful than my old one (another
Braun, 160W, which died because it was damaged
a couple years ago during a house cleaning and
finally gave up the ghost a few weeks ago).
This blender can make a smoother puree than
the old one (if that's what's desired -- it
has variable speed control so it's more flexible
than the old one). It can do anything the old
one can do, but way faster. It's a vast
improvement.
I don't have any use for the whisk accessory,
but I made some pesto with the mini-food
processor that came out quite well. It was
so easy compared to my old method (using a
hand-operated meat grinder), that I expect
to be making pesto more often. My only
complaint is that the pesto tended to run up
the sides of the food processor, but it was
easy to just lift the top off and tamp it
down every now and then.
It must have been years since I made pesto.
I'm wondering what else I can make with this
accessory.
