Lucky you! You can probably attest to the full summer heat (anything
over 70F) throughout Alaska, for at least a few days anyway.

Ken, my answer to you is "no".

As to the question, Are you a silly crank, it
sounds to me like you have some sort of ax to
grind and it doesn't have anything at all to do
with something as innocuous as a post-race beer.

You will quickly discover that Lance always has a ax to grind. Lately he
spends most of his time on the injured list which has warped his
ability to be civil and is very cranky. He needs attention and resorts
    to misbehaving.

As a side bar, the question was asked and answered he but still has yet
to connect the dots. Maybe he hasn't got his GED diploma. Will I take
the time to explain it to him, no, I just love it when he stamps his
feet and makes himself look foolish. You can consider him r.r's curmudge
only court jester with "cap' n 'bells" - the floppy three point hat with
a bell at each end ringing as he types.

Very simply - outside and preferably on a trail.

Yeah but how about all those other activities this person and her
little friends asked on other ng's - where do you prefer to camp, hike,
play poker, climb, swim, golf, scuba dive, boat, snorkel, ski... ?

Here's my question: what's your favorite place to drink a beer? :-)

OK, this appears to now be a two part question:

    1. i haven't run in very many different cities, let alone countries. i
run here in Ottawa; i did a nice route through Stowe, Vermont many
years ago, way before i even took up running seriously. ran in Orillia
and Montreal.... an early morning run, as the sun came up, along the
Ottawa River in Montebello, Quebec, was a highlight. did some fantastic
runs in Vancouver, too.... one took me along the north shore of South
Vancouver (island?) on a path that passed by loads of beaches and
mountain scenery, right into the impressive downtown. another Vanc. one
was a trail run through some almost spiritual, spooky forested area.
loved it. nearly got lost, too 🙂 oh, and of course, i ran the loop
around Stanley Park out there, watching the waves of the Pacific.

    2. a lager beer is best had on a patio in summer, either mid-afternoon
in the sun, or late night with a guy playing guitar in the corner. BUT
a Guinness can be perfect in a dark, noisy pub late at night. and ANY
beer is superb in huge quantities whilst seated in your favourite chair
while watching old horror movies at home, late at night. chips/nachos
must accompany all beer to enhance the taste and total experience.

now to go back to NOT thinking about the beer in my fridge... waiting
for me AFTER my race on Sunday 🙂

  4. when i vacation i enjoy to take a 30-40 minute jog. in
geneve,switzerland- 1992- was probably a jog that will always be
considered one of my more pleaseant jogs. i started from the modell
hotel and would jog to the left bank of lake geneve. actually it is the
rhone river, but don't quote me. i would continue to the docking area of
yachts then turn around to jog back toward my hotel. there was a clock
which is made of flowers that i would pass before crossing the bridge
to end my jog. it is fun to jog when traveling.i've had numerous
vacations in my life, yet switzerland was one of my most memorable
    venues.

  5. Doug and all fellow post-race beer drinkers...you are most welcome to
come and run in Cape Town. Beautiful place! And we have much more
important things to do than wory about where and when you enjoy your
    brew!!
Try the Two Oceans 56Km or the Knysna Marathon or the Pensinsula
    Marathon....all great!

The Western Cape is beautiful and I spent this past weekend in
Caribbean sand enjoying large amounts of my favorite wine originating
your way (Goats du Roam). But the issue was Race Director compliance
    with their permit & law.

The amusing irony of your comment is as follows. You invite people to
come run the Knysna Marathon where you proudly say "we have much more
important things to do than wory about where and when you enjoy your
brew!" (despite this not being the issue).

Unfortunately the Knysna Marathon has a 5 hour cut-off for all runners.
That's not a very inclusive event and many on this newsgroup would be
left out in the cold and on the course as your Race Director packed up
to tend to "the more important things to do than provide support for
the 5+ hour marathoner". And why are not 19 year olds allowed to enter
    the race?

Is your Race Director allowed to violate his permit and local laws?
Can he knowingly allow group of 18 year olds to register and enter the
race or would that then present liability exposure? Can the race
director disregard his permit and allow the Cut off time be extended to
7 or 8 hours for the slower runner?, perhaps the physically challenged
    runner?

No Doug, you did not answer the question. Are you in compliance with
your permit when you stand at the finish line drinking alcohol on these
    public lands? Yes or No?

The answer Doug is "no", I can prove that, the whole newsgroup knows
that, and that you have not answered "yes" or "no".

The issue centers around Race Director responsibility & compliance with
law. Some race directors might turn a blind eye to blantant litering
on trails and in parks, perhaps some welcome going over the limit of
allowed runners though it may be capped at a certain number for
environmental reasons, where you choose to ignore your permit & law is
to drink alcohol and salute finishers (routinely).

Don't dance off the issue Doug. The way this whole thing works Doug
is no one is allowed to cut corners and or pick and choose which laws
they choose to obey & recognize.

You get permits to hold a race, serve food, play music, hold orgies and
psst, to have drinks. Ok the orgy is a stretch. You are such a dunce but
you do make me laugh. Maybe a GED refresher course would be helpful.

If the running layoff is getting you down, take up cycling or something.

  11. Again Doug, you are unable to say Yes or No, aren't you? You speak
around the issue and don't directly answer it. I'll ask you again,
Doug Freese, are you in compliance with your permit to hold a race
event when you the race director openly drink alcohol at the finish
    line on these public lands?

You've yet to reply with a Yes or a No. Elaborate all you want....but
please Doug, can you answer the question?

  12. Note sure what you specifically mean Donovan. I just got back from 3
days of Caribbean sand & sports fishing. Why do you care if I choose
to get a reply from Doug? To date, he's been nonresponsive. He speaks
to the issue, does not reply and simply hurls personal attacks,
insults, etc. I'm sorry if it bothers you that I choose to press Doug.
I don't mean to upset you or anyone, I simply want an answer from the
race director whose events I subsidize.

I mean that your activity on this newsgroup doesn't appear to serve any useful
purpose. Perhaps you could redirect your energy to more productive endeavors
(including recreational or social, if you like. Anything short of starting bar
    fights would be an improvement)

  14. infotainment for personal amusement and i would strongler differ with
you and it's readily verifiable. most people on this ng chat w/one
another about themelves. i probably have posted/published more running
content than anyone. specifically, issues around races, running, etc.
    links, articles, etc.

yes, i would say you're verifiably incorrect donnie. now not liking
what i say is a separate issue, but it's always running content. i
take it your [censored] because i presented argument demonstrating
something that you don't believe in could have improved your last race
    performance?

and i demonstrated wherein craig mottram approaches racing very
different than you? you can say what you want about me donovan, but i
    always post on running content.

you say some incorrect things ya know that i "let go" and allow the ng
to remain ignorant on. example? a couple of months ago you described
insoles/inserts devices as useless or something to that effect. you
were 100% incorrect but i passed on demonstrating how.

if you are recovering from a pulled calf, a strained calf, or even have
a hurt calf....a good running sports doc/trainer will insist are you
resume gradually traning, you were heel inserts/gels to reduce the
stress on the calf as it is recovering. it's true. insoles/inserts
have a well founded, well established application in running, directly
contrary to what you asserted in your post. look it up.

so this is an illustration of what annoys you? me being able to
demonstrate your words as inaccurate & flawed? the sports psychology
stuff really unnerved you didn't it Donnie?

what you call a "bar room fight", i call spirited on topic debate for
personal amusement. you just don't like it when something counters
    your notions.

is it when i remind so many here how really in context running
performance & BMI or so interlinked/connected? i don't care about
being popular or liked here. i care about exploring running topics &
issues, challenging convention, etc. Out of that Donovan comes
    knowledge and education.

I am the reason why people on this NG know Deena Drossin Kastor will
seek her Sports Psychologist serveral times a week when training and or
that Craig Mottram does not wear a watch of any kind when racing.

Exploring the issue behind this annoys you Donnie...right? Sorry for
    providing information on runners....
