Dunno, killfiled it about 2500 posts ago. Anybody say something new
    or different lately?

Of course not. Still the same people speaking with reason saying the
same things and the same people spewing back with fear and ignorance.

    Glad you're coming around finally.

and that's on both sides as far as I can tell.

No, only one side is speaking with reason.

True. The pro-lid people ARE coming from personal experience and mature
judgment. Funny how /threatening/ that seems to be...

    Heh.

The thread has become self aware and is now propagating itself.

Personally I'm looking forward to the new "T-Mobile Tour Edition"
helmet with little boulders stuck in the vents.

in the subject line, but in this thread we're expected to behave like
    adults and not repeat it.

Adults? - too late, about 25% of the posts in this branch are by the most
juvenile of the participants in the helmet threads. No points for guessing
    on which side he's settled...

    C'mon Bill - they've heard (errrrr, "read"😉 that in about 1,000 of
those 2,500 posts, and still don't get it. What makes you think THIS
    one will work? ;-)

Reading posts is not enough. They actually have to read the research,
though I think few people do, because it conflicts with what they want
    to believe.

    They could start at
    "http://www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_rdsafety/documents/pdf/dft_rdsafety_pdf_507998.pdf"

If anyone wants to use this thread to comment on the doggedness of the
participants on the various sides of the issue in the other thread,
    fine.

But if want to use it to rag on the arguments/people you don't agree
with in the other thread in terms of what they're saying, I'd urge you
to reconsider. On the one hand it's cowardly. If you want to
critique one side or the the other, do it in the actual thread.

And on the other hand, it will lead to the arguments spilling into
this thread, which will be confusing.

Par for the course in these threads. Gotta go shopping for my walking

I appear to need a refrigerator-raiding helmet. Clonged myself good
    on the freezer door earlier.

But then, what will we talk about? Chain lube/cleaning? Frame
materials? Tubular tires? Hang vs. stand? Paint vs. powercoat?
Chain vs. U-lock vs. cable? Why only a portion of the general
population statistically indistinguishable from "nobody" cares about
    Critical_Issue_X[1]?

On second thought, I'm gonna go put some miles on the bike instead of

Other day I was putting on sunscreen (risk compensation!) in the bathroom
before a ride. Had a little extra lotion on my hands, so bent over to put
it on my legs and BAM! knocked my head right into the sink countertop.

Luckily, I had already put on my helmet and therefore didn't die. (I /did/
    see stars, though.)

<sigh> Bill, don't you know that if you hadn't been wearing a helmet,
which makes your noggin both bigger and heavier, your head wouldn't
have hit the countertop at all! Just ask the Wonderous Raven, he'll
    'splain it to you. ;-)

Well, I dunno - I suppose it's always possible that you didn't want to
get sunscreen all over your shorts, so....

Uh huh... but the helmet increased the diameter of your head, making it
    easier to hit.

Had you been in the Netherlands, you would not have hit your head.

Even putting on sunscreen was unnecessary as the number of people that
die from skin cancer, where sunscreen would have prevented the cancer,
    is vanishingly small.

Didn't you read the population study where they studied the population
of the UK and found no difference between skin cancer rates between
sunscreen users and non-users? You are required to ignore the data where
they looked at skin cancer patients and looked at who used sunscreen and
    who didn't.
