Sharon and I tried another route to visit Philadelphia: from the north --
and found a lot of pleasant and pretty riding. We rode from Quakertown into
the
Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia -- through Trumbauersville and
Franconia and 5 Points, then returned more east via a covered bridge and
reservoir near Doylestown, then Perkasie.
.. (Didn't go all the way down to the Art Museum this time, since we felt
confident how to do that -- instead focus on finding a good route further
out)
Lots of gentle terrain sorta near the Montgomery / Bucks county border --
not as hilly as upper Bucks. We much enjoyed Allentown Rd going south
roughly parallel to Turnpike Northeast Extension, miles and miles of nice
curves and rollers. Unlike the straight lines and 90-degree corners further
east (but then we got enough of those on our return).
We again liked Chestnut Hill as a food+rest stop . . . and we made the
discovery that it's a hill.
We're hoping to try that general idea again, but next time likely not
venture so far east into Bucks county on our return: instead try to find
some roads with more curves.
