  1. I've been reading about unispins and watching tutorials and
EVERYTHING... I can do the 180 mount and can Kind of jump with the SIF,
but everytime i try to do the unispin i just CANT DO IT!!! 🙁 🙁 🙁
i even went and bought shingaurds :p

I start hopping and jump up and spin the unicycle but i can never
either spin it fast enough or get my feet even close to the pedals, I
always end up pulling my feet back to catch myself.... I was thinking
the problem is that when I mount I have my right foot in front and when
i hop i have my right foot in back... Ive been trying to unispin for
like 3 hours so i really think im doing something wrong. 🙁

  2. I have the same problems...I'm an expert at messing up the unispin. Been
trying for roughly 6 months now, sometimes on and off, sometimes with a
solid 2 hours at a time just working on it. I think it's mostly just a
mental thing. A tip that I've seen a lot is not to worry about where
you bring your feet in, just to slam them in as fast as you can, cause
if you land on the cranks, you still land the unispin.

  3. Maybe i should try that, because i try really hard to get my feet on the
    pedals.. 🙁

  4. Have your seat *really* close to your thighs, put your holding hand (the
one you hold the seat to hop with across and grabbing the middle of the
seat, the other towards the back to help with the spin (that's how I
    prefer it...).

When you're ready to hop, remember to lean slightly forward so you're
prepared to hop slightly forward (lessening chances to bail), pull your
legs up during the jump and aim to land on the cranks (makes you less
    scared).

  5. I taught my friend to unispin just yesterday. He got the 180 mount
pretty quickly, probably 8 tries, but when he went to do a unispin, he
messed up badly. I was recording it too. =p

Anyways, at first, I looked right at his feet, as that was the most
noticeable. He want jumping with them, more of just kicking them off
the pedals, instead of actually jumping off the uni. I had him mount,
get in SIF and act like he was gonna do the uni spin, but just had him
jump up, lift the feet high and land on the ground behind the uni, jsut
so he can get used to actually jumping and bringing the feet up.

Now that was done, and I reassured him that he is doing it Seat out to
seat out, he isnt gonna rack himself, he had shinguards on, so pedal
    bites arent gonna hurt.

Now he tried them. Since he was comfortable about bringing his feet up,
and not afraid of getting hurt really, his foot position was great, but
now, he wasnt spinning the wheel enough. Probably would spin about
100-120 degrees, causing one foot to land on the pedal, and the other
trying to get over the tire but could, cause the tire was in the way.

I had him look at his hand position. He jumps with his right hand on
the handle, and was spinning the uni to his right. I had him move his
right hand on the top left side of his handle, and just had him spin
it, and get used to spinning it all the way around.

Now that he was able to spin the uni 180 degrees with no problem, and
was able to commit to landing because he want afraid of getting hurt,
and he could get his feet off, he landed his first one in about 10
tries. This whole process took about 5-6mins for him to land a
    unispin.

Hopefully that little story has some things you can benefit from.

EDIT: How you mount wont effect this. My friend (in above story)
mounts, then rolls back half a rev to hopping position. He mounts with
his right foot, putting it in the back position, then his hopping
position is right foot in front.

  6. there is so much information onm unispins in tutorials etc just search
and you will get heaps of responses then go out and practice practice
practice......beleive me if you were to get it in 3hrs you would be
    doing well.
For some it comes easily others not so but practice and you should be
    able to do them soon.

  7. I can't edit my post but just to add on. I mount and hop in the same
manner as you too and when I started learning, I could barely hop SIF.
I still can't hop SIF confidently up obstacles even now (and my regular
hop sucks). Unispins don't really require much in the way of skills.
Just LOTS AND LOTS OF SHEER GUTS.

    Good luck.

  8. Because I have never tried a uni spin. But are you using heavy metal
pedals? I just got some nylon pedals and rode about 30 miles on my 36
today. It was a noticeable improvement over the snafus I had been
using. I weight 185 and I jumped a bit to test them and had one good
side crash, so they may hold up well for you.
I am fairly sure lighter pedals would help with the uni spin. These
pedals weigh half as much as snafus or JC's, and cost only 8$.🙂

  9. well ive been having problems with the uni spin aswell.

I wear shin pads but due to previous injuries (oh so many) im still
scared of getting my feet on the cranks even with shinnies 🙁.

So now ive learnt that when learning a new trick, learn it with
shinnies first and do everything i can to not hurt myself (basically
    land it).

But in tips, i've realised (finally) that you have to lean over the uni
before you jump for the spin and when you jump you sorta push down on
the seat and just move your legs up (keeping the uni on the ground as
    much as possible).

Well anyways... I'm gunna sum up my courage tommorow and really go for
it (even though i've said and tried this many times) and hopefully land
    it. 🙂

  10. iv learnt recently aswel and find that shinpads are really useful. I to
had alot of blood spilt learning this trick with metal pedals. I wish i
had bought plastic pedals and shingaurds BEFORE i had learnt!

Make sure you kick your feet outwards not upwards and like said before,
lean forwards not backwards nad slam your feetin. When slamming my feet
back in i almost grip the frame and slide down to make sure i am
completely on the cranks. This also levels the pedals if they have
    moved in the spin.

You realy do have to want to do it and it is just as much mental as
    physical.

Are you sure about that? I've always tried by kicking me feet outwards,
almost like I'm doing a jump-splits, and I have never been able to
bring them in fast enough. I was watching some unispin videos and saw
people moving their feet more upwards than just straight out to the
side, and it made it look easier.

  13. yer, you might be right.

I just found that when i learnt i found it easier to do a quick spin
without jumping to high. i supose it meant that i came down with less
force which usualy ended in less poweful shin to pedal collision!

Thinking about it now, i would think that picking your feet up would be
better becouse then you can only come downwards towards your pedals...

  17. My friend Ben extended his seatpost by about 15" - ie. up to chest
height, and almost immediately pulled off a successful unispin. Then
once you have the foot placement and confidence, put the seat back
    down to normal.
