  1. In battle of sweeteners, promoters to slug it out
    http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi-0704060470apr07,0,2945392.story?track=rss

A battle between the makers of the two largest brands of
artificial sweetener heats up Monday in a Philadelphia
courthouse. That's when lawyers for the little yellow packet,
Splenda, will try to convince jurors that its slogan,
"Made from Sugar, So It Tastes Like Sugar" is not misleading,
as charged by the Chicago-based maker of the little blue packet, Equal.

During the five years that Splenda's sales have been soaring,
Equal's sales have fallen $30 million, while sales of sugar
    have fallen $85 million.

The sugar industry and Merisant claim they have lost millions
of dollars in sales as a result of Splenda's spectacular success.
First introduced in 2001, sales have risen from $34 million to
$212 million in 2006. One key advantage it offers is that it
performs equally well when heated in baking or cooking,
something Equal and Sweet'n Low, the third-largest
artificial sweetener, are unable to claim. Previously,
only sugar could make that claim.

Johnson & Johnson's McNeil defends its slogan but saying
that Splenda is "made from pure cane sugar," which is
converted through a three-step chemical process into an
    artificial sweetener.

    [
    "artificial" sweeteners:

    "synthetic" artificial sweeteners:
    Equal and Nutrasweet, Monsanto
    (aspartame, Phenylketonurics: contains phenylalanine)
    http://www.sweetpoison.com/articles/0406/monsanto_the_creator_of_n.html
Sweet and Low and Sugar Twin (saccharin)

    "natural" artificial sweeteners:
    Stevia (plant derived)
    Sorbitol, Xylitol, Mannitol (sugar alcohols)
    Splenda (made from sugar)
    ].

Why do you list Sorbitol under "Natural". It is not "Natural" and
there are many warnings out there about its use

    Splenda is also "NOT" 'Natural

  3. A better alternative sweetener is Stevia -- a natural product on which
nobody holds a patent. It is therefore not a great moneymaker for the
chemical companies and has been marginalized into obscurity by
legislation requiring it to be labeled a food suplement. No
calories. Works as well in hot and cold food and drinks. It's
actually possible to grow it in your backyard.

There's not really good reason to support the chemical companies.

To give an idea of the power of the drug companies, and the idiocy of ANY
government system Stevia packagers cannot put "sweetener" on the package.

How many people know that slaver was started and supported MOSTLY by sugar
    growers (not cotton)?

What is one of the dietary banes of the black race? Sugar.
(Don't anyone blab about "African American", we are talking of a "race"😉

Are you claiming that sugar is the dietary bane of blacks in countries
such as Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, etc?

I don't know about there, but in the U.S a bane.
The people in those countries have a different problem called by various
names but basically socialism (government owned)
