In article said:I got to the ACME supermarket at 4:30pm and the place was practically empty!
I had a clear shot to several cashiers standing around. I was out by 5pm and
headed home.
I've early morning shopped, where there are NO cashiers and I'm forced to use
the self check-out machine.
I'm tempted to go back at 4:30pm again tomorrow and check the aisle traffic
to see if it wasn't a fluke.
Another strange, unrelated matter, at the farthest-parking-lot-from-the-mall
ACME supermarket, there's a Starbuck coffee stand inside!?!?! I felt like the
ACME had been violated. 🙁
Anyway, the best time to shop at your market is?

Now that I work night shifts full time, I get to the market right around
7 am. Not only is it not crowded, but that is when they are putting out
any "deals" etc., such as the Pork outdates for $.97 per lb. I got a
gorgeous package of butterflyed lean pork loins this morning, plus some
chops and shoulder steaks.
I took 6 lbs. to my Sister and Brother in Law as a gifty. He's on a low
residue diet at the moment due to Diverticulitis, so they can use the
cheap meat. They get a bit tired of chicken too... (And no, I did not
ask for payment! It was a gifty like I said!)
I also get first pick of the re-stocked fresh produce that time of
morning. :-)
There are generally only 2 cashiers on duty and just enough customers to
keep them busy, but I'm ok with that!
I can get in and out of the store in just under 30 minutes, sticking
pretty much to a shopping list and just checking the sales, and I always
get a good parking space! <g>
They had some lovely Strip Steaks on sale this morning for $5.99 per lb.
The good steaks have been running $7.99 per lb. now for months! I
should'na, but gave in to temptation and blew $24.00 on 5 steaks.
<sigh>
I already had meat (pork) thawed for the next 2 days so I did freeze
them for later decadent enjoyment.... I may even brave this ugly hot
humid weather (and the mosquitos!) and grill.
Today's meal was a small batch of pressure cooked carrots, celery,
onions and scallions with lemon pepper, garlic powder and a very light
application of Italian herbs. I then sliced up 2 lbs. of pork very thin
and quickly fried it in the skillet after marinating it in Soy sauce,
Oyster sauce, garlic and onion powder and some pureed ginger root. I
also added some toasted sesame seeds to that.
Mixed it all together when all was done.
Most excellent!
Keeping it on topic, I bought all fresh veggies this morning. White
onions were $.50 per lb.!!! Sweet yellows were $.99. I ignored them. ;-)
And the Zuke's were gorgeous. I'll steam those in a couple of days with
some mushrooms and serve them as a side dish. I get the smallest, most
slender Zuke's I can for maximum tenderness and sweetness. It's cool to
have the produce section all to myself when they are stocking the stuff
right off the trucks...
