  1. I awake each night to pee and have a real hard time falling back to sleep. (i hear my heart beating
in my stomach and chest) I slep on my tummy with my head on a down pillow. I just watch as the time
goes by. Are there any suggestions as to what I can take such as
    valeria.5-.htp..melatonin..ornithine etc.

    I would appreciate any input.

Melatonin won't do any good late at night. It is good for getting to sleep earlier than normal, but
the only effect it will have late at night is possibly to make you wake up again sooner.

  3. Try 5 htp.

Also, move your clock so where you cannot see the time.

70 degrees F is the best temp to sleep in.

Allow no light into the room.

I did so until I was diagnozed diabetic (T1). After starting taking insulin, my thirstiness
has decreased a lot and only if I eat too much carbohydrates during the evening I awake by the
    need to pee.

So have a check on diabetes.

What is your situation with regard to stress, etc.?

I am required to sleep in completely dark room, blocked the windows but still need eye cover),
completely quiet (and nence ear plug), and cold enviornment. Since I like some weight on my chest, I
    have to keep
A/C at 68 degree when I was living in Texas. Here, it's cold enough now. I just keep layers of
balnkets on top of the bedspread which I can move to the side if it gets too warm.

Though I am sharing my arrangment, by no means I am sleeping through alright. The days I can sleep
straight through about 7 hours without waking up, which I call quality sleep, is the day I feel most
alert. Those days are rare but I have come a logn way from much worse situation, i.e when I was so
stressed out about things, in my 20s. I DO NOT HAVE diabetes.

By the way, I have read recently not to drink water after 8PM so that one won't be woken up to pee.
I started doing that as much as possible.

I haven't tried melatonin. Does it make one sleep too much?

Melatonin does nothing in my experience in getting to sleep earlier. It does improve the quality of
sleep. If you want to get to sleep earlier try GABA. Use a minimal dose as too much will make one
mentally sluggish the next day. Understand I've only used GABA about four times, it put me to sleep.
One and half grams was the dose I took which was too much as it made feel mentally sluggish the next
day. I'll try 500 to 750 milligrams the next time.

Try getting up earlier even if it shorts your nite's sleep. That will get you to bed earlier
provided you aren't drinking coffee and writing college papers for the next day.

Might I suggest a "white noise" like the running of a fan, can work as well as complete quiet.

No. Speaking from personal experience it improves sleep quality. It doesn't make me sleepy nor does
it make it easier to get to sleep, it only improves sleep quality.

  8. What is your dosage of melatonin.. Is it 3 mgs.. How long before sleep do you take.

Mainly, I take it only off and on. Currently I take 3 milligrams though even .3 milligrams seemed to
help for a few nights. I don't say that dose is ideal.

  10. try some valerian capsules and melatonin before you go to bed. maybe you'll still have to get up but
perhaps you'll be drowsy enough to go right back to sleep.
