I'll pass. I collect old cookbooks and I have plenty of squirrel and other
odd things recipes. Have never tried any of them.

Many years ago a restaurant in my small Alaskan town served "special
burgers" for lunch. Everyone in town knew they mixed ground venison
in with the beef. They were very tasty, very popular, but it was
understood that no one should mention what made them special because
it was illegal to use in the restaurant. -aem

The "game protectors" in my state take their jobs way too seriously but
they don't interpret that as being illegal.

It used to be common for neighborhood restaurants to give away dinners
made with wild venison. My one relative did a free venison dinner for
years as a customer appreciation thing. She stopped when the cheapskates
started outnumbering the regulars.

When my friend Paula was getting married back around 1993 I put together a
collection of recipes for her. (Also, coincidentally, I gave her a crock
pot since she and her husband are both very busy people who work about an
hour from where they live.) She was born and raised in the southern U.S. so
for grins I snuck in a recipe for barbequed raccoon I'd found on the
Internet. Just to see if she'd notice, you know 😉 (She did; we got the
giggles picturing her cleaning and cutting up a raccoon.)
