A rare bicycle worth about $10,000 has been stolen from Vecchio's Bike
Shop, 1833 Pearl St.

The "one-of-a-kind" Calfee-brand road bike went missing about 3 p.m.
Aug. 27 after an employee put it near the front door for about five
minutes, said Peter Chisholm, shop owner.

"Someone just walked into the shop and took it," he said Tuesday. "We
have no idea who he was, obviously. You'd be visiting him in the
hospital if we had caught him."

The 56 cm Calfee Dragon Fly road bike was one of the most expensive

it. It looked like there had been electrical tape wound around the
headset cups before they were smashed into the frame. The bike was in
the back seat of a police car. The rider, who had apparently been
apprehended for some other offense, was being loaded into the back
seat of another unit.

I lost some Basso Team bikes (NYC bike show!) in a burglary once.
Fifteen years later the rusty (serial numbered) frames turned up in the
basement of a house for rent, all the Campagnolo and other equipment was
likely sold right away.
Sunday's Chicago Tribune said cars stolen during/after Katrina are
turning up all over South America particularly in Bolivia(!)

This story is obviously false... there is no way that Peter would have
Topolino wheels in his store and the Calfee Dragon Fly is the prime example
of "Stupid Light."
