Hey, where is Peter Chisholm these days? He is one of the more prolific
posters and I have not seen hide nor hair of him for some time now. Hope he
is alright.

That should have been "I have seen neither hide nor hair". Too early for
proper grammar.

On that note, where's:

when we need some strident prose with an insult or two?

According to that site, he can't be found and may have been
"removed", at least for the benefit of we Australian readers 🙂

The above is not a complete URL. Did it return a picture of a whiskey
bottle for you? If so cut an paste the URL from the address line and
let us know. The one I listed should work in AU since the internet
knows no borders.

Actually, Robert is my brother. Robert's brother could be my other
brother, or me*. Suddenly I feel an identity crisis coming on.
* or perhaps my imaginary evil twin, Skippy, mentioned in another

Why ruin a good story?
http://www.jimbeam.com/beam/default.aspx? works OK. It's when I
put in a date, and country = "Australia", that I get the error.
And filling out the failed "/beam/au/default.aspx" to the
obvious
http://www.jimbeam.com/beam/au/default.aspx
gives the same error.
However, choosing another country and then substituting "au"
into the correct place does work. Ie,

Dear Tim,
Peter is all right and says that he's just taking a vacation from
newsgroups.
Talk about the woes of the local bike shop:
Thief takes $10,000 bike
A rare bicycle worth about $10,000 has been stolen from Vecchio's Bike
Shop, 1833 Pearl St.
The "one-of-a-kind" Calfee-brand road bike went missing about 3 p.m.
Aug. 27 after an employee put it near the front door for about five
minutes, said Peter Chisholm, shop owner.
"Someone just walked into the shop and took it," he said Tuesday. "We
have no idea who he was, obviously. You'd be visiting him in the
hospital if we had caught him."
The 56 cm Calfee Dragon Fly road bike was one of the most expensive
bikes the shop carries, and it was being prepared for an avid Boulder
cyclist, Chisholm said. It's black, with some blue in the corners,
Topolino wheels and Campagnolo gears.
Anyone with information on the bike can call Vecchio's at 303-440-3535
or e-mail Chisholm at peter@ vecchios.com.

Any bets that by now it's been spraypainted, and the bars, fork and
front wheel swapped with junk from a beater mountain bike?
I say that only because I saw a Trek Madone not too long ago which had
been recovered in a similar state of insult and injury. I do not know
if the head tube had survived the shoehorning of the other fork into
it. It looked like there had been electrical tape wound around the
headset cups before they were smashed into the frame. The bike was in
the back seat of a police car. The rider, who had apparently been
apprehended for some other offense, was being loaded into the back
seat of another unit.

I lost some Basso Team bikes (NYC bike show!) in a burglary once.
Fifteen years later the rusty (serial numbered) frames turned up in the
basement of a house for rent, all the Campagnolo and other equipment was
likely sold right away.
Sunday's Chicago Tribune said cars stolen during/after Katrina are
turning up all over South America particularly in Bolivia(!)

Dear Andrew,
Butch Cassidy: You know, it could be worse. You get a lot more for
your money in Bolivia, I checked on it.
Sundance Kid: What could they have here that you could possibly want

This story is obviously false... there is no way that Peter would have
Topolino wheels in his store and the Calfee Dragon Fly is the prime example
of "Stupid Light."
