anyone ever tried counting their carbs, or eatting low carbs. I am trying it. this will be my first full week. I have tried it half heartedly but am going all out. i was on ww before for six months infact. and lost 30 lbs i gained 5lbs and want to lose that and another 10lbs. i'm hoping that eating low cal and low carb will help. i will be joining the gym on sat and will then be starting to lift weights and do more cardio. i am hoping to be at my goal weight by jan 1 or sometime after.

I've been on WW forever. In an attempt to make a difference, I cut out carbs (sorta) too. It didn't work, and now that I've reintroduced them, I feel a whole lot better.

I tried going low carb two days a week for two weeks and just about went nuts. By 7:00 each of those nights I was crabby and hungry and just couldn't get enough to eat.
Good luck to you--I hope you have more success than I did!!!

The thing I don't understand about the people who are proponents of radical diets, is how they can overlook the genetic predisposition inherant in different people. I can understand that McDougall gets ill when he eats meat. So why can't he get that I Get ill on a pure vegetarian diet? I am really into "clean" food and animal rights. But I literally get sick after a few months on a vegetarian diet. I get weak, begin to catch things.... I am very careful with the types of protein I eat, but I do eat it. And have found the diet that works for my particular body. They totally overlook the evidence that different cultures thrive on different diets, the extreme being the eskimos diet, and say a pueblo indians diet. And the illness that overtakes those people when for some reason or other another diet is introduced.

Excellent points. I know I have mentioned it but saw this friend at Thanksgiving. His naturopathic doc told him to eat meat, chicken and fish since he was literally failing to thrive as a vegetarian - his muscles were wasting and he needed animal protein - vegetable sources just did not cut it.
We, humans, were originally designed as omnivores - plant and animal foods. I won't object to someone being one or the other if it works for them.

I just found - 20/20 hindsight - that my body wasn't happy with the lack of carbs. My mum (not a WW) has cut back on carbs and had some success (but then she would, since cutting back on anything reduces intake). My friend tried Atkins for a week - her asthma got suddenly worse, and she ended up with palpitations - and was advised to stop. Different folks different strokes.
The thing that gets me about Atkins is how sustainable it is in in the longterm. What I love about WW is that it's a proper WOL - a sensible balanced healthy diet - to be maintained. I'm not sure that Atkins can say the same thing. Though I'm not denying it would appear to be great in the short term.
Furthermore - knowing the points of things as I now do - I would find it incredibly difficult mentally to eat all those fats and so on.....it would just go totally against the ingrained grain.

I was following Richard Simmons Foodmover program and while during that lost 3 3/4 pounds and 7 inches in a month--the best I've done. Monday I changed to WW to try the flex points because while RS works I thought I might have a little more flexibility with WW. What I'm finding is I'm not staying within the points and I'm having a hard time following it because I have the flexibility and seem to take advantage of that. It's only been 2 days so I'm going to give it the rest of the week but I may go back to RS, I seem to follow it better. It's also a bit harder because I don't know the points for things and have had to guess at a lot of them.
Good luck with Atkins--I'm interested to know how you do!!!

I know a vegan who is one of the healthiest people I have ever met. She is a pear shaped short lady, genetically a mutt. A little of this, a little of that. She thrives on her diet, which she mostly makes herself, including wheat, legumes, fruits and vegetables, including avocados and corn daily. Never gets ill, so energetic it amazes me. I tried to copy her and went all washed out and sick within about 2 months, which is about as long as it takes ....

I agree with you about Atkins. I found it just did not work long term for me and it did not work for my exercise pattern - no carbs in the early morning left me dragging - no can do
