  1. Actually two NSV's, but one is totally unrelated to weightloss - but I'm still thrilled nonetheless
    (I'm sure Lee will understand).

First ... had an eye exam today, overdue as usual. I was so tempted to call and cancel, can't
believe I made the appointment this close to christmas and then remembered why I did ... My dr. is
deep into research now (60 minutes is airing a special on sunday about what this man has
accomplished ... he has done all the research and implimenting of the chips that are being used to
give some blind people a little bit of sight back) and only does exams one or two afternoons per
week. So my choices were today, or March. LOL! The family has been seeing this dr. for 14 years now,
staff hasn't changed at all in this length of time. Anyway, after signing the new privacy act papers
I sat down with daughter ... when the secretary called me back and said, "how much weight have you
lost?" I was totally blown away - after over a year I don't really expect anyone to notice anymore.
And yes ... I did go with that nice round 100 pounds answer. LOL It was really nice to be fussed
over and told how great I looked - especially since I have really been feeling pretty low the last
few weeks. It still amazes me how even these little things can push the motivation button back on.

And my *victory* that is totally unrelated to weight ... gains or losses. My family has a history of
Glaucoma. When I was in my early 20's a dr. said he was getting high readings on the puff of air
test, but never said anything else and wasn't in the least concerned ... in my ignorance I totally
forgot about it. 5 years ago my current opthamalogist once again told me I was having borderline
high readings (not using the air test, using the light test reading or whatever it is)
    - went into more specifics and was checking me twice a year as well as yearly field of vision
testings. In the past five years my readings have never changed ... always 22 (norm is 14 - 21, I
think - not totally sure on that first number), field of vision had not changed either ... so last
year we graduated to yearly testing. Today my readings were 17 in both eyes ...back into the
normal range!!! While it still means that I do have to fight that family history, and still need
to remain diligent with testing - it really is a huge relief to me to have that normal number show
up. I am still (and probably always will be) considered *possible glaucoma* - but I am looking
more on the positive side today.

  2. I do relate and you do have the numbers correct and it is a wonderful
feeling to know that you are watching it closely. I am very happy for you,
Lee, who had a reading of 57 once, and NO you don't want to know how bad
    that hurt

And savor those weightloss incidents someday folks will forget how you USE to look.

He's probably using a tonometer. They put drops in your eyes to freeze them, then apply the
tonometer to the surface of your eye to measure the pressure within the eye (I used to work for an
Ophthalmologist). Glaucoma can be a a very serious problem. Sure glad that your potential problem is
under control. I don't think it has anything to do with weight as we used to see really skinny
people with serious glaucoma problems. Does make you wonder though if there is a connection.

With drops/medications glaucoma is treatable although not curable, so keep on top of your eye exams
and you should be fine. Good luck with it!

  7. Oh look at this good news! I needed some, ate like a real oinker today. In the past, I would have
continued into the night, but I am done now (4 pm) for this day, logged my points just for fun, a
new high thanks to dd's home baked pecan pie... I am going to journal for the next week, and hope to
weigh in under goal at the meeting Jan 3. Boy is my stomach complaining about this christmas dinner.
A friend brought by a plate of home made cookies also, and I sampled several. Sent all leftovers
home with DD and DSIL. Whoop. Grandbaby was a hoot with the presents.

First ... had an eye exam today, overdue as usual.
LOL! The family has been seeing this dr. for 14 years
now, staff hasn't changed at all in this length of time. Anyway, after signing the new privacy act
papers I sat down with daughter ... when the secretary called me back and said, "how much weight
have you lost?" I was totally blown away - after over a year I don't really expect anyone to
notice anymore. And yes ... I did go with that nice round 100 pounds answer. LOL It was really
nice to be fussed over and told how great I looked - especially since I have really been feeling
pretty low the last few weeks. It still amazes me how even these little things can push the
    motivation button back on.

And my *victory* that is totally unrelated to weight ... gains or losses. My family has a history
of Glaucoma. When I was in my early 20's a dr. said he was getting high readings on the puff of
air test, but never said anything else and wasn't in the least concerned ... in my ignorance I
totally forgot about it. 5 years ago my current opthamalogist once again told me I was having
borderline high readings (not using the air test, using the light test reading or whatever it is)
    - went into more specifics and was checking me twice a year as well as yearly field of vision
testings. In the past five years my readings have never changed ... always 22 (norm is 14 - 21,
I think - not totally sure on that first number), field of vision had not changed either ... so
last year we graduated to yearly testing. Today my readings were 17 in both eyes ...back into
the normal range!!! While it still means that I do have to fight that family history, and still
need to remain diligent with testing - it really is a huge relief to me to have that normal
number show up. I am still (and probably always will be) considered *possible glaucoma* - but I
am looking more on the positive side today.

    Joyce

I like those NSV's - and I bet the glaucoma one IS related to your weight loss, especially if your
blood pressure was also on the high side and has gone down! Well done indeed!

  12. My grandmother lost one eye to glaucoma ... that I know of (the family was estranged many years
before her death). I have a double whammy, mom has lost most of her eyesight due to diabetic
rhetinopothy. I have been very diligent in watching and testing for diabetes because of this, as
well as keeping up with the eye exams. Since I obviously never showed any health issues with the
increased weight, guess things only sunk into my brain partially.

Oh trust me, I really do savor those weightloss compliments. I know people will forget or become
used to the *new* me - but I am wondering if I will ever forget. Most days I hope I don't!

He's probably using a tonometer. They put drops in your eyes to freeze them, then apply the
tonometer to the surface of your eye to measure the pressure within the eye (I used to work for an
Ophthalmologist). Glaucoma can be a a very serious problem. Sure glad that your potential problem
is under control. I don't think it has anything to do with weight as we used to see really skinny
people with serious glaucoma problems. Does make you wonder though if there is a connection.

THANK YOU! I didn't know the exact name, but have heard from most doctors that this testing
procedure is so much more reliable than the air puff thing. I did ask the dr. about weight or other
external factors being possible causes - he told me no, nothing you can really do to prevent
glaucoma (at least that was my understanding). But, I'm not going to argue with the latest test
results - don't really care why they are lower but sure am thrilled that they are.

With drops/medications glaucoma is treatable although not curable, so keep on top of your eye exams
and you should be fine. Good luck with it!

I most definitely will stay on top of it. This man is incredibly hard to get into, due to all the
research he is doing. I know how much he enjoys the research, but continually tell him I hope he
also keeps his practice going - even if only a few hours a week (is better than nothing). We found
him totally by luck, when my youngest girl was 2 years old and needed surgery on both eyes to have 4
muscles shortened. 13 1/2 years after surgery, her eyes are still working very well together - no
recurrance and only family members can detect a very slight wavering when she is really overtired.

leftovers home with DD and DSIL. Whoop. Grandbaby was a hoot with the presents.

  19. High blood pressure can affect eye related problems ... as it can damage the blood vessels in the
eye, which I believe can lead to hemoraging. My husband has high blood pressure and it has resulted
in some damage to the blood vessels in the eyes. No damage to the sight yet and so far seems to be
under control, but again, he is being carefully monitored for possible future problems and hoping
they will be detected at the earliest onset.

As for me, and/or glaucoma ... blood pressure doesn't appear to play a role, at least in my case. My
blood pressure has never been high. Even at my highest weight I was still within normal limits. But
... the blood vessels in my eyes do show no sign of any damage either ... another good thing.

    the

    was

    Quoted message said:

    totally

blown away - after over a year I don't really expect anyone to notice

    anymore.

    Quoted message said:

And yes ... I did go with that nice round 100 pounds answer. LOL It

    was

    Quoted message said:

    really

Nice NSV Joyce. Being fussed over really does push the motivation button.

And my *victory* that is totally unrelated to weight ... gains or

    losses.

years ago my current opthamalogist once again told me I was having

    it is)

He's probably using a tonometer. They put drops in your eyes to freeze them, then apply the
tonometer to the surface of your eye to measure the pressure within the eye (I used to work for
an Ophthalmologist). Glaucoma can be a a very serious problem. Sure glad that your potential
problem is under control. I don't think it has anything to do with weight as we used to see
really skinny people with serious glaucoma problems. Does make you wonder though if there is a
    connection.

    Quoted message said:

    - went into more specifics and was checking me twice a year as well as

    yearly

    Quoted message said:

field of vision testings. In the past five years my readings have never

    changed

    Quoted message said:

    ... always 22 (norm is 14 - 21, I think - not totally sure on that first

    number),

    Quoted message said:

field of vision had not changed either ... so last year we graduated to

    yearly

    Quoted message said:

testing. Today my readings were 17 in both eyes ...back into the normal

    range!!!

    Great!!

    Quoted message said:

While it still means that I do have to fight that family history, and

    still need

    Quoted message said:

to remain diligent with testing - it really is a huge relief to me to

    have

    Quoted message said:

    that

    Quoted message said:

normal number show up. I am still (and probably always will be)

    considered

    Quoted message said:

*possible glaucoma* - but I am looking more on the positive side today.

With drops/medications glaucoma is treatable although not curable, so keep on top of your eye
exams and you should be fine. Good luck with it!

  20. Under 160 🙂 Yeah, personal goal. Strange thing, I am 156 this morning again. I think the big meal
noonish followed by a fast is maybe a good shaker upper. I will behave myself today and see.

You mention "under goal" and since you were healthily under before, you mean PERSONAL Goal as
    opposed to the WW goal?

Well, good luck. I just posted a Maintain and hope it was a good guestimate (G)

DSIL. Whoop. Grandbaby was a hoot with the presents.
