Actually two NSV's, but one is totally unrelated to weightloss - but I'm still thrilled nonetheless
(I'm sure Lee will understand).
First ... had an eye exam today, overdue as usual. I was so tempted to call and cancel, can't
believe I made the appointment this close to christmas and then remembered why I did ... My dr. is
deep into research now (60 minutes is airing a special on sunday about what this man has
accomplished ... he has done all the research and implimenting of the chips that are being used to
give some blind people a little bit of sight back) and only does exams one or two afternoons per
week. So my choices were today, or March. LOL! The family has been seeing this dr. for 14 years now,
staff hasn't changed at all in this length of time. Anyway, after signing the new privacy act papers
I sat down with daughter ... when the secretary called me back and said, "how much weight have you
lost?" I was totally blown away - after over a year I don't really expect anyone to notice anymore.
And yes ... I did go with that nice round 100 pounds answer. LOL It was really nice to be fussed
over and told how great I looked - especially since I have really been feeling pretty low the last
few weeks. It still amazes me how even these little things can push the motivation button back on.
And my *victory* that is totally unrelated to weight ... gains or losses. My family has a history of
Glaucoma. When I was in my early 20's a dr. said he was getting high readings on the puff of air
test, but never said anything else and wasn't in the least concerned ... in my ignorance I totally
forgot about it. 5 years ago my current opthamalogist once again told me I was having borderline
high readings (not using the air test, using the light test reading or whatever it is)
- went into more specifics and was checking me twice a year as well as yearly field of vision
testings. In the past five years my readings have never changed ... always 22 (norm is 14 - 21, I
think - not totally sure on that first number), field of vision had not changed either ... so last
year we graduated to yearly testing. Today my readings were 17 in both eyes ...back into the
normal range!!! While it still means that I do have to fight that family history, and still need
to remain diligent with testing - it really is a huge relief to me to have that normal number show
up. I am still (and probably always will be) considered *possible glaucoma* - but I am looking
more on the positive side today.
