Bicycleman...an option to avoid night riding is to develop sufficient fitness that you can do all the brevets during daylight. One heck of a challenge but I have done it. Or, just get really good lights.

I had this light sitting on top of the handlebars. I had it set where it illuminated the road on either side of me and way down the road. The only problem is that it blinded oncoming motorists, who immediately hit me with their bright lights, rendering me completely blind. When I finally lowered the light, I couldn't see worth a rat's ass. So much for that.

  2. Most lights throw a spherical pattern and when bright enough, they can offend oncoming motorists. I can tell you my head was killing me on the lonely return on Paris Brest Paris with all those lights on their way still out to Breast.

German bicycle lights have cutoff regulations like car lights but they are kind of expensive and only run off dynamos (generators). Most serious Randos use them. I don't. I use a battery lighting powered option with some beam shaping. I like to be able to change power settings espcially on a high speed descent. When I need 500 lumens, I need 500 lumens and the 200 lumen output of a dynamo setup that is fine at 20-25 mph just does not cut it for me. They are nice, though. I will have one someday

  3. Every day i cycling its refreshing me and i will be feel so good in all day long. A fantastic ride in pleasing morning with my latest bike.

The light I have on order has a max output of 800 lumens with different settings. I do have an old NightSun halogen light system, but the battery housed in a water bottle no longer charges. Now, that was a great light. Every time motorists hit me with their bright lights, I hit them with a brighter light, since the Nightsun was a double headlight. They got the message and dimmed theirs.

    Why...the audacity!!!

    Very nice! Congratulations!

I think 150-160 miles is the longest ride I have taken. I never got into the ultra stuff. Maybe when I retire...

150 is all I ever did, and I did that on a whim one hot June day back in 1990. It's a pity I didn't keep doing the long distance, but I had such a hard time with the last 25 miles that I never tried to do that much, again. I routinely did 100 milers all the time, but 150+ soured me. Right now, I don't know if I want to do anything more than 200k or not.

  8. I just did 29 today. The wind cut through me like a knife. Last week I did two massive rides, 90 and 107. I think, I might be over training because I am tired. There is still Thursday or Saturday to kick in more miles, but it is really going to be cold both days, no higher than 34 degrees. Now, that is what is called beating up myself.

  9. I rode 31 miles today on a local bike trail. The weather was unseasonably warm and sunny 75F+! The last time that I road on this trail, there was a horrific incident involving a rider down and CPR (given to the person by me) so I was a bit emotional when I crossed that "bad" point in the trail...

  10. Awwww...you guys are making me jealous! 75 degrees! It feels like it was another lifetime the last time I rode in 75 degree air.

It snowed a bit more today and tomorrow 1" to 3" is forecast. It got up to 27 degrees this afternoon, but the next four or five days are supposed to be really cold. Something like minus 4 degrees by Saturday night. It's downright sucking in Ohio again.

I climbed aboard the Boredom Express trainer this afternoon, but all I could stand was 42 minutes worth. I did beat the living [censored] out of it...just for being there.

Nice job with the CPR, wheelwoman. I'm sure it was a heart pounding experience and I'm sure it was appreciated by the accident victim and his or her family.

  11. "...Paris with all those lights on their way still out to Breast."

It's "Brest", damnit! These Freudian slips are giving away our innermost thoughts...and desires!

That guy can't speak a word of English so he shoves his language into an English translator and that's what comes out. That's funny.

I just love that global warming bull [censored], don't you?😄

    No. California, actually. 😉

  16. 92° in Long Beach yesterday.

Despite having the warmest. least snowy Winter I can remember, we got an inch of Global Warming™ overnight with 1" to 3" more Climate Change© expected today. The Lake Effect Snow Belt will receive 4" to 10" of Extreme Weather® today.

Tonight and tomorrow...another 1" to 3" of Carbon Sequestration will land on my overheated little Utopia here on Planet Death From Rising Sea Levels.

    Meh...another day in Trainer Hell.

I have been all over California. I spent some time doing helicopter avionics audits in San Diego. I liked their cool weather in June. I just didn't like the area. Way too many people and too much traffic. Unfortunately, I couldn't take a bike with me.

Don't despair, Obama is going to take care of that global warming by taxing big business, which will in turn raise prices of their goods and services so you and all the other sheeple can pitch in and do your part to lower your carbon footprint while Obama flies off in Air Force 1 giving weekly tours of the DC area by air for all his golfing buddies.

  19. Snowing today. Wanted to ride today but snow is a no go for me. Trying to decide whether to do a really big, huge, YUGE, Trumpesque ride this weekend. Looking at my bike light batteries blinking at me in the charger now.

Finally got my bike light and tail light. Nice light. Front and rear lights are all charged and ready to go. I wonder how much use I'll get out of these? I have bought about 5 lights but misplaced them due to lack of use, but have to have a light because the 200k starts before dawn. The tail light is nice to have because my last one went down for the count.

I have to go into town for my monthly blood test and will rest up today. I would like to ride tomorrow, but the day time high will only be 36. Sure I can put on 9 layers, but a long ride tomorrow is going to be tough. We shall see.
