Can anyone explain why theres such a huge emphasis on functional strength training for cycling power, specifically for climbing, when the most efficient way to build power is still through high-intensity interval training on the bike itself, and not in the gym with squats and deadlifts? It seems like every coach and trainer is suddenly a strength training expert, touting the benefits of plyometrics and resistance band exercises, when in reality, the majority of cyclists are just trying to build the endurance to get up the mountain without blowing up, not win a powerlifting competition.

    And dont even get me started on the so-called science behind functional strength training for cycling - wheres the hard data to support the claim that doing box jumps and step-ups is going to magically translate to more watts per kilogram on the bike? Its all just anecdotal evidence and bro-science at this point.

    Im not saying that strength training cant be beneficial for cyclists, but lets be real here - if youre spending more time in the gym than on the bike, youre probably doing it wrong.
