FWIW, I've heard a guy at my LBS say that Maxxis Detonators aren't generally great for puncture-resistance. I've got 28mm Maxxis Detonators on my hybrid, and I must say they seem pretty puncture-prone in the rain. Having said that, I'm a shade under 14 stone and I commute on them so admittedly they get a tough time.

As far as wieght the LBS and riders in the bike club say wheel/tire weight will make the biggest improvment.
