Reommendations on any others?
Recently, my ice cream scoop broke. I mean broke, the
metal just snapped off right below the scoop. Obviously a
bad casting, but after six years or whatever, I got my
money's worth. I went to a commercial supply place and
that scoop slipped a gear quickly and now the little blade
that swipes out the ice cream is out of the scoop's bowl.
Off to buy another.
I bought one of the new fangled types that looks kind of
like a pair of pliers in the shape of an ice cream scoop.
You squeeze the handles together and the bowl pieces mate
into a half sphere. When you have your ice cream scooped,
you relax your grip and the scoop separates into two parts
and the ice cream just drops out. I was skeptical, but the
thing works. I bought mine at a local store, but I think I
remember seeing one in the Home Market Place catalog. I'm
remembering something like $6.95. It's a little too new-
fangled looking for my taste. (Ice cream is a comfort food
and the scoop is part of the experience.) But in this case,
I'm letting form follow function and would get another, it
works well and looks super sturdy.
By the way, my favorite scoop is the oak handled one that I
used growing up and is still used by my mother to this day.
I'm guessing that oak handles no longer meet food safety
codes because I've tried and tried to find a new one and I'm
told they're no longer made.
Hope this helps,
Ken
