A Borrowdale, Lake District campsite.

Yes, but... basic is over stating the matter, and for this its not cheap if
the sign on the gate you go through to get in is any thing to go by.
If I remember rightly I think its at least £4 PP, but, and this is why I am
not sure.. over Christmas their out house, which is the correct term for it,
broke so I stayed there, along with about 20 other people for nothing.
I am almost sure this is the one you mean and if so, then you actually pay
at the house on the main road which is just after the road leading down to
Stonesthwaite. I will be going back to this place regardless of the loo's
simply because if where it is.. location location.....

Yep this is the site. £4.00 is O.K. for me but sadly i planned to go
with a friend who is VERY tight fisted. The site at the top of Wasdale
is £2.50? and he had no objections to that price. Pleased to hear
Borrowdale site is open over Christmas. Does this mean it is open all
Winter? last time I drove past in Winter (ooh, ten years ago) that
field was full of sheep! Sadly i can remember when this site was only
£2.00 per person. A lady would collect the money at an awful 7am.
how much do the other campsites charge in Borrowdale?

I honestly dont know but I shall be keeping a close eye on this thread in
case anyone has contact details for the farm at the end of road leading to
Seathwaite. I have looked on www.ukcampsite.co.uk which is a great site by
the way, and I can't see mention of it there. This is the site right below
Base Brown.. which is really just another field that you certainly have to
share with the sheep.
I would agree by the way at the price, but then when you look at the
national trust site.. and some of the others.. it makes me go blue..

I am not quite sure I would decribe this one we talked about as being 'open'
over Christmas.. more a case of.. if you want to stick you tent up there, go
ahead, just don't be bothering us telling us the loo's don't work... kinda
thing.. which was cool by me... and the lady I saw.. can I imagine her at
7am collecting money.. sadly.. yes.. same lady I bet..

yes the campsite below Base Brown is just a field is'nt it? Does it
least have toilets and a sink? if someone on here knew the name of the
farm i am sure the Direct Enquiries would be able to help. I know it
used to be a trout farm. Is it still? If it is ask 118 118 for Trout
farm 'phone numbers in borrowdale!

Brilliant page except that the number for the farm we were talking about
isn't right. For the farm at the end of the Seathwaite road . 017687 77394,
and the lady who answered the phone who lives next door, said she thought
£3.50 was the price last year, per person.

I actually need to thank you for posting about this as I now have the number
for the Wasdale site I was hoping to stay at this coming Friday night.
Hoping to do Yewbarrow Friday afternoon, then Lingmell and onto Scafell Pike
Saturday. My darling 8 yr old is itching to get on top of England so I
think weather permittig we are going for it.
Have a great time if you do stay at this site and let me know how you go on.

£5pp last easter. Toilets and showers are very basic.

I am embarrassed to say I had the link you just posted and It never
occurred to me to look for Seathwaite campsite on it. I can be a liitle
dim at times.
Sammyjo i also have your website saved as a favourite! I loved the
catBells photos. It is one of my favourite walks. I usually continue
over Dale Head and Hindscarth.
Just did Yewbarrow and on to Red Pike Saturday just gone. Very misty
and did'nt see a flaming thing (and also got lost). We went through The
Chimney but I believe you can bypass this.
