Holme Moss was a rude awakening. It was an unrelenting grind at times in
poor visibility due to low cloud. Still the lower temperatures keep me cool.
The short descents barely made up for the upwards grinds and the loop that I
rode was very Escher-esque i.e. most of the loop appeared to be uphill.
Normal lighter riders at 60% of my body weight would no doubt race up the
climb. My victory over gravity was achieved, much to my suprise, without
the need to use the granny ring.

I am so glad that I chose not to ride over Holme Moss with full touring kit
the summer before last. It might not have killed my but my spirit would
have been mortally wounded.

Good stuff - though I remember Alf Engers broke the 25m 50min (30mph avg)
barrier way back in 1978...
