I was in there today, but I only bought groceries having bought a jacket on
e-bay and some 35 quid Campag shorts with metallic silver threads woven in.
I wore them once and the stitching split leaving an inch hole on the back of
my right thigh- so much for paying over the odds for superior stitching. Had
to buy some black cotton to repair them myself.

Doh. Other than that, is the Campag stuff any good? If it's got silvery
(reflective?) thread it's probably made by Castrelli -- but I don't know
whether they're any good either.

I like Castelli stuff, the Coolmax bibshorts that I had were the most
comfortable I owneda t that point in time. I've heard their Illuminate
range is not as good as its cracked up to be.

I went in this morning, before going to the cycleshow.
they are bargains but not very nice, still worth buying though.
Looks they were going quickly in the old kent road store.

It's made by Campag in Bosnia-Herz and the silver threads are an
antibacterial feature. The silver helps prevent the little blighters
multiplying. I haven't tried any Campag tops , mine are all Gore at the
moment.

I have a Campag winter jersey and a pair of Campag bib longs. Both are
very well made, strong and cozy.

Same here, AFAIK there is ONE in Sussex and its in Bexhill. I'm in
Brighton. Still there are Lidls everywhere and I have been sneaky enough
to schedule a work visit to the Bexhill area on thursdays when they have
done kit in the past 🙂

It's worth a journey for the bike stuff, I had to get the train out to Heathrow, £2.95 return, more than saved that (and that was just on 4 cans of Belgian lager!)

We really get screwed for bike stuff here. If only I had an ex-girlfriend in the UK, there may be one in Jersey. Is there an Aldi there?? 🙄

postage hardly worth sending it over to you. The stuff is marketed under the
name Crane sports but the packaging features Evans bikes so probably only
available in UK even though probably made in the Far East. There is always
eBay

Martin, thanks, I will wait for the new seasons shoes from Specialised, but it was nice to remember the good time I had in jersey in my younger days. I did direct import some sporting goods from jersey in the late 80s, quite cheap too, not bike stuff though.

Postage charges might not be that bad. I buy most of my cycling
clothes from GroundEffect in New Zealand and airmail delivery
costs around £7. If you add that on to the cost of extremely
cheap clothes they might still be cheap even with the delivery
charge.

I was looking at the shoes, 20pounds,
plus post, 10 at the most, that is about $85 aus dollars. I can buy Specialised for $139 less 15% in 2 weeks, and have the benefit of trying them on, but $40 saved is $40...

Also Aldi does not ship mail orders, just personal buyers, and I don't have any family in the UK to send shopping/posting for me. I'll go with the Specialised..
