Asics 2100

I will be testing out my first pair of screw shoes this winter - practicing
on the ice for a race this winter on one of the local lakes.

ok, i'll bite. are you saying you're intentionally running on ice? and that
there is some sort of running event on ice?

this must be a goof race of some sort right?

It's a long winter, what can I say? Actually there is a great 5 mile race
on Lake Superior each winter to the Apostle Islands but I won't be ready for
that this year. I got involved in working at the local races this year in
lieu of running them and said something to the RD about how we should have a
winter event - our other races have names like the Buck Rut (5K XC, 1st
weekend in Nov) and the Dead Skunk (5 mi trail, end of June). So he asked
if we were supposed to run across the ice on the chain and I replied that
they do it up in Bayfield so why not here. Hence the inaugural race,
probably the same weekend and in conjunction with the annual ice golf
tournament.

Last year I ran on a small local lake a few times (snow covered ice) - it's
not bad on a sunny day. The roads are too dangerous because the snowbanks
take away the shoulders, and the trails are full of snowmobiles. There are
plenty of XC ski trails that can be used but the lakes are less crowded -
ice fishermen are easier to avoid because they just sit in their trucks and
their shacks and don't go anywhere.

Well, ok, perhaps it was an exaggeration. But to my inexperienced, sensitive
little girly feet, the Kayano felt even more different from the beloved
2080s than the 2090 did, if that makes any sense. Sufficiently so that I
certainly would be worried about spending $110 in order to find out they
felt no better on the road than they did in the store (specifically, both
the sole and the upper felt stiffer). Based on the obviously imperfect tool
of web research, it seems like there's a lot of people who like one or the
other, but few who like both.

Makes perfect sense, feet have their sensitivities. I never cared for
the basic feel of the 1080's or 1090's which are close to the 2000
series. I would expect the Kayano's to feel like a lot more shoe
especially with another 1.3 ounces. They should have named the kayano
series 30NNs.

The 2090 is a stability shoe, you probably should be wearing a cushion shoe
unless you know you have a substantial amount of pronation. The Landreth is
similar to the 2090 but without the medial post, might be worth a look.
