Base line for cleat position

Wanted to know if you had any suggestions for basline cleat postioning. I know you start roughly with the ball of your foot over the pedal spindle, but am unsure how to get the correct angulation. I also wanted to know what adjusting the cleat slightly forward/aft of the axle would change. Thanks for any help. mh
 
In my opinion, toe angle is the easiest to position, becasue an incorrect position will immediately feel wrong, especially when riding off the seat.

Most people get on the bike with loose cleats to get a rough position before tightening.

Unfortunately, it can be a tedious process getting the right position
