Any body know of a good set of brake pads that will work well on both
carbon and aluminum wheels? thanks.

DON'T DO IT! Actually, you may be able to do it, but only in one direction.
You can, for example, use the new Bontrager cork-type pads on either an
aluminum or a carbon rim. But once you use *any* pad on an aluminum rim,
don't use it on a carbon rim. The issue is that aluminum rims sometimes shed
material into the pad, and that material will do a nasty number on the
braking surface of the very-expensive carbon rim.

So if you're moving from a carbon rim to aluminum, you may be OK... just
don't do it in reverse.

zipp claims that theirs work on both, but for everything I know about carbon
I'd agree with mike

after all, for what your carbons are worth, don't they deserve 5 minutes to
change pads?
