Tried Yahoo, Google - zilch.

Then you're not trying very hard

Have I made my point yet, or do I need to paste the other *10 pages* of search results in as well?

You're either a liar or you're hopelessly incompetent w/ Google. I didn't even try Yahoo - got all of these results the first try on Google.

Cheers, mate.
Let me look through these links that you've listed, and when I've read them,
I'll make a reply.

I just quickly re-read the deatils inthe links you provided.

The Flying Tigers - flying from 1937-1943
http://www.flyingtigersavg.com/tiger1.htm
This was about pilots fighting in the Orient.

The remaining links appear to be book reviews and some detail about 244
US pilots who flew in the Battle of Britain.

OK - you've proven to me that 244 Americans joined the war effort before
Pearl Harbour.

I'm wrong - you are right.

It's about time. And I agree that the Irish war effort during 1939-1941 was more than admirable. Especially, since the government was anti-British. Cheers for those that volunteered. Any effort a small nation that could ill afford to lose any men is to be commended. Can we now close this 'gone on way to long discussion'?

I am always prepared to admit I am wrong.

I genuinely did not know that any Americans were involved in WW2 prior to
Pearl Harbour - this is why I asked for proof all along.
Skwanch's detail answers my question.

I didn't really know how much the Irish contributed. I just assumed they were neutral. Guess you're never to old to learn something.

150,000 from the Republic.

I haven't a number from Northern Ireland - I would expect that it is high, but not as high as the Republic (Northern Ireland's population was 1.085m at the time)

I saw something on the BBC website that mention 100,000 total. I guess I should have considered the source. I thought Ireland had more people than that.

You could well be right about N Ireland - certainly the Unionist/Protestant community there would have felt an allegiance to Britain and would have volunteered.

In the Republic at that time - 90% of the population was Catholic/Nationalist, yet they still felt compelled to join up and fight.
I suspect some would have joined the US forces (rather than take the Kings
Half Crown as they used to say - a half crown was payment !).
If you had any stats on the number of Irish that joined the US for the war,
I'd appreciate reading it.

I don't think they would have let outright foreigners in the US military at that time. They probably would have set up something like thing did for the other occupied countries. I've got several books about those. I'll see if any of them talk about the Irish. Just the same, US law forbids US citizens from joining another country's standing army. I don't know if it is enforced though, unless its the taliban.

I didn't know that the US had this law - tow new things I've learnt today !

I’m sure you’re familiar with the “Abraham Lincoln Brigade” fighting the Franco Fascists in Spain during the civil war. This predates WWII, but in a way we were indirectly fighting ******.
Unfortunately those who volunteered to fight on the side of the loyalists were later labeled “premature anti fascists” in other words, communists.

Indeed I do know the name of the “Abraham Lincoln Brigade”
Franco and ****** were both on the same side.
OK Franco didn't get involved in WW2 but ****** and Franco were fascist were they not ?
****** aided the nationalists (Franco) in the Spanish civil war.

Orwell fought in that War on the opposing side (loyalists) to Franco.

A very bitter war by all accounts and one which the Spaniards are only really coming to terms with, even after all this time.

Its been around for over 100 years. Came about because of the civil war. Don't think they enforce it unless they fight for the wrong side. Also there were Irish divisions that fought for the Union side in the civil war. I know of at least two.

Oil? Yes. But to ELIMINATE the corruption of the UN Oil for Food program. To eliminate the need for No-Fly zone enforcement.

Face the facts, the UN is corrupt and only imposed sanctions so Kofi and Kojo Anan could PROFIT. And the UN "sanctions" were just boilerplate used to keep prying eyes out of the corruption.

Just trying to recall Jessica Lynch.
Remember Private Jessica Lynch in Iraq ?
The one who was supposedly rescued by US forces ?
Jessica Lynch who was allegedly kept in atrocious conditions by the Iraqi's,
while all the time she was getting good medical care.

Strange how Bush & Co tried to fool people about what happened to her,
how she fought valiantly, how she was mistreated.
All lies of course.
What ever happened to her ?

The more you look at the US involvement in Iraq - the more one becomes more and
more convinced of the outright lies that Bush & Co tell.

Don't forget Abu Ghuraib, WMD, doctored evidence, armament sales to Hussein...........

I see you must be bored...Yes, it is raining here in lovely old Ireland..Bush and company lied. Their chief meteorologist clearly stated that it was going to be a sunny day...Oh and damn, I didn't win the lottery today, it's got to be bush and company's fault.

Waiting for the T-shirts...Don't blame me, Bush and company made me do it...

That's Limerickmans message....If something goes wrong...it's bush's fault...

No I'm not bored.
I ask the question about Jessica Lynch because her name came up in conversation today.

Of course, this doesn't take away the fact that lies were told about her capture, valiant struggle, her being held in oppressive captivity.
So that's why I ask the question of you statesiders - 'cause after the lies were exposed about her, we have heard nothing about her in this part of the world.
Did the Hollywood moveie ever materialise ?

The only lies concerning PFC Lynch are the ones made in the media about her fighting. She never got a chance to fire shots in anger. The rest of the accounts up to her "transfer" from the Iraqi hospital to US care are spot on. Yes, she was interrogated, mistreated and further wounded in the care of the Iraqis. Yes, she was violated by the Iraqi fighters before she was taken to the hospital. But if your daughter/sister had been raped, would you want that broadcast to the world? We do have shield laws here in the states...and PFC Lynch's privacy is covered under the UCMJ. Furthermore, doctors are FORBIDDEN from releasing such information.

Limmerickman, you disgust me. You are lower than a snake's belly. Why don't you go to NYC and join the rest of your degenerate scum who assault police officers and disrupt the peace. And get arrested.

Seems your account of what allegedly happened mirrors exactly what the
Pentagon said at the time - and then was found to be lies about the Jessica
Lynch scenario.
I believe she herself said that nothing happened to her.

You're the one who's telling lies.
