Keep in mind that the Kinport rail adapters are designed to fit the bolt
pattern on the KH seat. If you want to use your Torker air saddle
you'll need to get the more expensive KH branded rail adapter that is
designed for the Miyata seat (same bolt pattern as the Torker).

I have a miyata that I will be using the Kinport rails adapter on. Maybe
he did the same thing as me and bought a CF base.

ObieOne and John-- I guess that I should clarify my earlier missive.
I have two saddles for the Coker, a KH and a Torker Air Saddle. My
first inclination was to purchase a rail adapter for Torker Air
Saddle, but after browsing the selection at unicycle.com, I decided
abandon that notion and buy the less expensive Kinport model. My
thinking was that if my saddle-tilting efforts failed to significantly
improve my 'seat-time', then I would only have misinvested about 30
bucks on a rail adaptor. The upshot, then, was that I hoped to use
the Kinport rail adapter to mount my KH saddle (and not the Torker Air
Saddle).

I've two unicycles that I enjoy riding: the Coker, and a Yuni 29er.
If the saddle-tilt adjustment works to my satisfaction, then I'll
undoubtably purchase a second adapter for the other saddle, the Torker
Air Saddle. Since seat post diameters are the same for both unicycles
(22.2mm), I can mix and match saddle and unicycles. (Candidly, the
jury is still out on the Torker Air Saddle. Each saddle has it's
attributes, but I seem to get about 22-26 minutes of pleasurable
riding time with the KH, and only 18-22 minutes with the Torker Air
Saddle. Saddle-tippin' experiments may prolong these times, i hope.)

Regarding Bedford Inventory: I browsed the online catalog earlier
today, aturday, but failed to find the Kinport rail adapter. I'll
give the catalog another peek. I obviously overlooked it.

The catalog on Darren's web site is way out of date and wasn't even
complete at the time. To find out what Darren's got, and how much it
is, you have to call him or email him. He's got a good selection and
even has stuff with a unique Bedford flair (like special colored painted
frames and hubs and rims).

The GB4 seatpost is good and strong. It has about a 5 degree additional
tilt compared to a standard seatpost. Unfortunately, my Coker seat and
muni seats are tilted at more than 5 degrees. I do use the GB4 seatpost
on my freestyle uni with a Miyata saddle and does improve the comfort.

Saddle tweaking just takes a lot of experimentation. You have to be
willing to try things. Some ideas will work and others won't. The
ideal angle for you will also take some experimenting. Changing the
angle by just a degree can make a difference.

Your riding posture also plays a role in saddle sit time. If you slouch
forward or roll your hips forward you'll get numb or sore faster than if
you sit up straight and sit more on the back part of your butt (at least
that is the way it works for me). Learning how to pedal more smoothly
also helps so you don't bounce on the seat as much. Pushing down on the
nose of the saddle or handle on the saddle will help you get some weight
off the saddle and extend the saddle comfort time. Good padded cycling
shorts along with chamois cream like Chamois BUTT'r also help a lot with
saddle comfort. Trying a different brand of shorts may help if your
current shorts aren't doing the trick.

Last time I heard from Darren, he had Kinport adapters with the Miyata
bolt pattern in stock. If thats what your after, definitely shoot him an
email. He generally responds very quickly.

An update: Darren responded promptly to my inquiry about the Kinport
rail adapter. He said he had one in stock (for $33 US, which included
postage for air delivery). The Miyata/Torker rail adapter is
out-o-stock right now.

Trying out the GB4 seatpost seemed like a doable idea since I just
happened to have a 22.2mm version in my spare parts bin. I cut the
post to fit the 29er, mounted a KH saddle, and went out for a 45
minute ride. The route taken, a 4-mile loop through the UND campus
and adjacent residential neighborhoods, did not permit me to try to
braek the 30-minute 'seat-time' barrier. Traffic, a gusty 10-15 mph
NE wind, and frigid temps (in the high 20s) made conditions less than
optimum for sustained riding. I can say that I did like the feel of
the tilted saddle--a noticable difference in comfort for the KH
saddle. (I also noticed that the more 'nose-up' position had a slight
affect on my freemounting...strange how a subtle, almost neglible
change in the geometry can put the CNS into a new learning situation.)

I'm going to invest a few more hours of riding time with the
KH/GB4/29er combination before deciding to go the rail adapter route.
We're entering the season of lousy weather for Cokerin' here on the
northern fringe of the prairie. I'm aimin' to ride the 29er as much
as I can before haulin' out the cross-county skis. 🙂 Thanks for your
