that with the exception of R3 the quality is inferior to FM

Exaggerated, I'd say. Not hi-fi quality, but most radios
aren't (unless you live in an area where the reception is
unusually good).

My hearing is not entirely what is once was, but I really
don't notice the quality difference. The analogue radio I'm
used to is a Technics GT550 playing through a Mission Cyrus
1 and Tannoy DC2000 speakers. The digital radio in the
kitchen is a Pure Evoke and to be honest I find it different
to hear the difference except on Radio 3.

The big plus with DAB is that you get much less dropout; the
signal may be imperfect, but it's /uniformly/ imperfect,
rather than coming and going as analogue does around here.
The bad thing is that when you do get dropout, it just goes!

In general we have been entirely delighted with our DAB sets
(one in the car, one in the kitchen). BBC7 is a big hit with
the whole family.

That's where you're going wrong : my seriously cheap car
with moderately cheap stereo manages it fine. But then I
don't test it that often.

Believe me, I've tried cheap cars with various qualities of
stereo as well. Cheapish stereos with LW used to be the way
to go, but DAB is better.

lower quality than FM, but like you I don't notice the

Are you sure? I've been listening to Radio 3 on DAB for some
time and not noticed it being mono. I can't check because
the new car doesn't have the DAB set in it yet and the
kitchen radio only has the one speaker, but the Radio 3
reception advice people say it's stereo and they are
/supposed/ to know.

We have David's DAB set plugged into his hi-fi. When we
listen to R3, I'm *sure* it's in stereo.
