What is the real advantages to wireless? other than not having to worry about zip ties & cut wires, u now have to worry about another battery dieing no?.

I am currently looking for one. one with cadence would be awesome, but i dont really know if i need one.
I honestly still dont have a bike yet, but i am planning on getting a trec 1000. I am researching as much info as possible cause like remote control cars, air planes, and what have you, this hobby is not too cheap.i would like to have my money well spent and not regret anything in the end.

here are 2 models i was looking at... any input on them would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in a similar boat. I just picked up a Trek 1000SL fof $500 new from the LBS. I think I may splurge a bit on the computer though and get an edge 305. I'm a bit of a geek though.

I would go with the dB as it has the cadence feature and the Cateye that you are looking at does not. The cadence feature is great if you are just starting out as it is difficult to estimate how fast you are pedalling unless you have experience. Even with 40 years under my wheels, I'll look at my cadence and find that I'm only pedalling at 88 RPM when it felt like I was closer to 100. Age is a wonderful thing, just when you get the experience you need, it is too late to use it.

Of course you can use the old standby, count your revs for 15 seconds and multiply by 4. But it is much easier just to look at your cyclocomp to see how fast you're pedalling.

Cadence is very useful. I switched to a cadence equipped computer a couple of years ago (Cateye CDW300), glad I did.

Only real advantage I found of wireless is that it's a neater looking installation.

What I didn't like about the Cateye - complicated user interface. You get used to that after a while. The screen is clear and easy to read.

how good is the dB brand has anyone ever hear anything good about them/how long they last? I'm sure its like everything else, you get what you pay for. but is this a real bargain?

I have the Astrale 8. The reason I chose this is because it's mounted on the back wheel and thus can be used for reading indoors on a trainer. I'm not sure if the other brand you are looking at has front wheel or back wheel setup. Check it out if you plan to ride on a trainer.

FYI, Filzer is a good company but they do not manufacture any of the items that they sell. They do some rebranding but are mostly a single point retailer. Their offerings are all good quality though.
