There were bids of over £6million, so the seller must have cancelled them to
get back down into the '00s, but the current high bidder is someone
deliberately bidding the price up again as an anti-scam measure - look at
his ME page. Sad thing is, that still may not prevent the seller's scam
from working. He's just looking for people to contact him off ebay, as his
"PLS E-MAIL ME BEFORE YOU BID FOR AN BUY IT NOW PRICE!!!!" says. He's got
all sizes and free shipping and will 'sell' you anything you want, at any
time before his auction ends, so never mind the bid price....

The only thing I've ever bought through ebay was a tandem. The seller
had no track record but I was still happy to bid on a COD basis.

Depends how the URL resolves. OTOH if it did turn out to be a scam your
payment is protected by the credit card company. If the credit card co
wants to open a merchant account for a scammer then I'm happy to help
educate them to be more discriminating in their choice of merchants.

It looks genuine and it can take a few days IME following the auction
for the buyer to get in contact. It offers the Paypal option with a
credit card so your payment should be secure if you use that. I would
be inclined not to use the cheque or postal order options even though it
may save you a few pennies.

If you did win it you should start to get a series of e-mails from e-bay
to set up the exchange and I found it easier to wait for those than to
start contacting the vendor direct.

Hi Tony thanks for the reply, I've received the emails from ebay confirming
I won the item, that's how I got the email addy of the vendor. I suppose
he/she could be being a little tardy, I'm just getting a tad edgy I think
because this is the most expensive thing I've bought via a auction and I've
heard scare stories about ebay.

On another note do you think it looks a good deal or have I over-valued the
bike?

Ok thanks chaps. You're right.

I feel good about the price I got based on the retail value of the spec of
the bike. Groupset, hubs etc.

I was just hoping those with more experience in these matters would agree.

I would not panic yet. I've had a case where I bought something, didn't
hear anything for a fortnight, wrote a stinky email, and got the item
the next day. I paid by PayPal, and I don't think the seller had
noticed he'd been paid.
