Hi, I have been low-carbing (Induction with < 20g carbs/day) for two weeks now and it is mostly going very well. For exercise I predominantly walk at a brisk pace and over long distances but over the past week I am having difficulty walking up hills. My legs are tyring very easily and feel very heavy and this tends to puff me out. I am wondering if I should increase my fluid intake (already taking about 2 litres of water per day), take some potassium supplements or 'no-salt,' or even perhaps increase my carbs now. The other possibility is that this is a temporary thing and will pass. Have others found this? And what things can you suggest I do. Thanks.
Potassium should help and No Salt is a good way to get it. I found that the potassium pills upset my stomach but sprinkling No Salt on food doesn't. Also, the pills are a max of 99mg so you have to take almost 7 tablets to get the same amount of potassium as 1/4 tsp of No Salt.

You should reach down between your legs and feel if your balls are still there.

You've obviously never done a forced march with a ruck.

I remember going through this, especially feeling it in my legs when going up steps. I also remember I'd read about it so didn't worry - I think it was in the Atkins book. Did you read that one? (I don't know what plan you follow if any)

1.) please do not quote the resident troll. when I want to read your post, I am involuntarily exposed to his unpleasantness. the only alternative is to kill file you, and I don't want to do that....
2.) walking over rough ground can be interesting, as it takes you to places otherwise not explored and it exercises more muscles than just walking on a sidewalk.
3.)riding a bike is better than walking because at least you create a breeze to cool your body--and, you can coast when you get tired!
I expect the weakness in the legs is more due to the number of carbs you're taking in than anything else. We all know runners carb up before a long run, to give the body plenty of the instant-energy "juice" it needs fo supply the muscles demand. At 20 g. carbs a day, those muscles run out of "juice" pretty quick on a long walk.
Yes I read the Atkins book, but about 3 years ago. I am pretty much following the Atkins induction phase. I guess I should dig the book out. Thanks for pointing this out.
