Consumer reports has done several helmet tests over the years. They've tested for the level of impact protection. The results have been quite consistent: There are measurable differences. More expensive helmets offer less impact protection.
Unfortunately, Consumer Reports shows the comparative level of impact protection using colored dots, rather than numerical data. This may be because the actual numbers would tell consumers how dismal the level of protection really is. And in violation of their mission, CR has chosen to strongly promote these unnecessary and ineffective devices, using the typical helmeteer propaganda.

If you know of even one $2000 bike frame that comes close to its strength, I'd like to know about it.

I stand corrected. The objection was hypothetical, but it was in response to a broad, unsupported generalization.

N=1. There are also plenty of very sketchy frames in that price range. I've heard that the Monocog is pretty sturdy, but have not seen any actual test data, so I don't know how other frames compare to what you perceive it's strength to be.
This has been done for jamboree-type rides like the Dunwich Dynamo in the UK.

Endo's are a normal part of riding for me. Sometimes they're on purpose slowing down or stopping, sometimes they're a result of the terrain and running out of skill. I don't think I'd like the impact back on my head either... maybe I'll let this one slide by.
