street fixin' !? If it makes you feel better, I bought two sets of
bars so it kinda cost me more ;-)

Record cranks eh? Will Shimano rings fit on them?

On the weekend I scored some Dia-Compe TT levers from my favourite LBS (don't ask how much they were) as well as some brake cable (and the use of side cutters that actually work!!).
End result? A (sort of) street legal fixed gear bike.. I present..

if the brakes are proving problematic why not swap out the fork for something that will take 'normal' brakes?

if you got some ol' V-brakes (for my SS-project. the canti's are shite) lying around i'll swap you for some sweet sraight-bladed chrome forks

They are normal brakes. The problem lies with the fact that they
are quite flexy calipers and the fork is meant for 27" wheels but
I am running 700c - so the brake pads are at full extension in the
calipers.

Hmm.. didn't think of a fork swap. I like the all black look but if I
could find a 1" fork to suit 700c wheels, that'd be cool. Dya know
what sort your fork is? I've only got canti's laying around now
afaik. I will still keep an eye out for some better calipers. Does
anyone have some schmick long-reach calipers lying around?

peter moore might be the guy for the longreach calipers?

Hmm.. it's probably more trouble than its worth, but, what do
you want for them other than vee brakes? Money, parts, beer?
I still feel more inclined to try and find a funky old caliper but I'll

They're all 144 BCD, so I guess so. Kinda weird idea though...

That looks very classy. You could solve your brake problems by just cutting the end off the forks and moving the dropouts up a couple of centimetres. You'd lose some rake, steppen up the head and seat tubes, and make the bike go really well...

You never choose the easy way do ya?!

Do you happen to know which manufacturers made long-reach
calipers (other than big-S)? I'd love to put something 'funky' on
there.. failing that - a fork swap, failing that - **** brakes.

I'm trying not to use the handbrake anyway, but it'd be nice to have one that worked - just in case. The whole point of this
bike was to improve my track skills.. you know, no hander trackstands and reverse 360's!

I did plenty of (don't laugh) reverse 90's and a couple of reverse
180 degree turns, but I haven't gone past 180 degrees. My trackstands are kinda awkward because I can't quickly spin the
pedals around to regain balance like I can on a freewheel bike..
e.g. if you happen to roll passed the sweetspot - you're in trouble!

out of curiosity, is a reverse 360 a useful skill on the track or is just the 'trialler' in you coming out?

hehe no.. no use at all..
hence the big smiley after that line - big time sarcasm.

I actually think there's a rule, at least in sprints, that prevent
you from going backwards. It's to stop guys trackstanding and
then riding backwards to behind the other rider and stuff like that. Some people could sit up there all day waiting for a rider to move forward! Geoff/SuzyJ - wanna clarify?

"If a bike moves backwards more than 20 cm, the rider must end the track stand and continue riding (track bikes are fixed gear, meaning that if you pedal backwards, the bike will go backwards).
