Curious if anyone else does the above, or am I the only one. I take 200-400mgs before my L5 work to take that edge off as you know how painful these intervals are...Anybody?...

Makes sense, certainly would help the recovery. I use similar during my ski holidays, but that's just to allow me to make more use out of those lift tickets. 😉 -

I don't get it... why? If you are in the middle of race, you probably have not taken these NSAIDs prior to the race and suddenly you have to do an L5 interval to make a break.
5 minutes in, your brain starts to tell you this is too hard, but your power meter is telling you that you have done this before... You can't hack the pain because in training you have artifically dumbed down your senses to achieve the goals.
The guy on your wheel didn't take the NSAIDs and goes past you in a moment of mental weakness and you lose the break. Race over.
Harden the eff up. 😄

Actually there's evidence that Ibuprofen slows recovery...

Brilliant! I'll take your opinion as the bad joke it was...😄 You're right, I should just quit racing now as my mental fortitude just isn't up to snuff...Regardless of the fact of my 5 collegiate football years and former NFL career (albeit short) were, in all likelihood, sustained in part by NSAIDS... -
Just do some L6 workouts.
then the L5 won't seem so bad 😄

There's an L6?? Damn, and all this time I thought I was at the top of the interval training chain...I'm gonna fire my coach now!!!😄 -

I'm deeply apologetic for not agreeing with you🙄

Uh, did you say something??Really though, and this is my last reply as I don't do internet pissing matches, if you happen to check my original post I was asking if anyone else took Ibuprofen - not trying to start a debate about the practice. Simple fact of the matter is that it works for me, with no readily apparent ill effects.
Lastly and quite frankly, your opinion's worth to me is just a little bit less than the price I paid for it...Peace.🙂

If you don't 'do' internet pissing matches, then why do you insist on being such a [censored]?Seriously, my mate asked why you took the Ibuprofen (maybe because he was honestly curious, as am I, as to why you really feel you need em) and you come back with some smart [censored] comments. I'm just not feeling the love from you bro.
So, don't indulge in the pissing contesnt, but I will, so go get farked🙂 Good day.

I have a suggestion. Take them as a suppository. I you are ghey enough to want to take them for a training session you are ghey enough to stick them up your bum.

I think you missed my point, but if something is so mechanically easy like riding is causing you pain to need to take bulk amounts of NSAIDs; you need to see someone about it.

Guess it depends on one's definition of "recovery". Recovery for what? As in my earlier case, it was recovery to get back to normal life and do a few more ski runs, and to be able to walk up and down stairs at home and at work ie. Not directed at extremes of physical endurance. But also note that the article stated that NSAID can assist with recovery post intense exercises in moderate doses. -

LOL! Sounds like you are relating some of your prior experience...I'll pass, thank you very much... -

LOL! This is getting comical...Bulk amounts???? 200-400mgs???? LOL!Never thought asking such a benign question would:
1. Have my manhood questioned
2. Have me being accused of practically overdosing on Ibuprofen.
3. Have my competitive spirit analysed such that I will probably never win a race because I've taken Ibuprofen before a training session.LOL!:p

kidney failure?
-
I have taken Ibuprophen before a ride basically because I was feeling my age but I don't think it makes me homosexual, of course there those time that I don't like women that well but my penis has an insatiable and almost addictive need for vagina and the penis always wins the argument when it comes to a battle of wills.
So, I have ibuprophen, but not often. -

kidney failure?
I have gone to a talk with an MD (a cardiologist IIRC) and the issue of kidney failure due to the use of Ibuprofen was brought up. He said that based on research, for kidney failure to be a risk one would have to take Ibuprofen 3-4 times/week for 2-3 years straight.
For the record, I don't take Ibuprofen for the reasons that Dave brought up. Plus the idea of using pain killers in training/racing is unappealing to me as a clean athlete.
