And how many bikes have you yourself purchased from Bikes Direct?
I haven't, nor said I did, that's why I'm not slandering BD because I haven't had any experience with them good or bad. However, if you're on other forums like I am you can check BD bike reviews, you can do a search for BD among the forums and read about the positives or negatives which I've done both. And complaints are extremely rare.
There has only been two legit complaints I've read about where components broke and BD handle the warranty problem quickly and hassle free; there were also two problems that were not legit, one guy was [censored] because his bike came with a different wheelset then the bike specs said, but in those specs it also said wheelsets are subject to change according to the manufacture, but what was odd was the buyer got a better wheelset and he was complaining about it! The other was a guy broke his drop out from what appeared to be from something hitting the bike from what other forum members could tell, but the poster swore up and down he hadn't, BD requested the bike to be sent back to have them look at it after initially declining because they too thought it was accident. BD ended up replacing the frame so that their reputation still looked good on the forums. BD actually got on Road Bike Review and posted pics of the bike to see what people thought of the damage, it was overwhelming that everyone thought it was an accident, a few thought that maybe the derailleur failed causing the dropout to break. So that replacement took longer then the buyer/poster wanted and he got a bit [censored], but in the end he got a new frame.
I personally know a guy who bought a BD Motobecane TI road bike and he hasn't had any issues with it so he hasn't had to use their customer service, but he does love the bike more then any other bike he's ever owned. You can also check the reviews on other forums and find out what a specific BD bike is all about before you buy.
If your not using the internet to check reviews on high dollar purchases...well, that's your problem. It's a valuable resource that I use all the time even for smaller purchases regardless if it's related to bikes or not.
