Thinking about riding the above this year on the 30th of March. Plan is
to ferry it over from Portsmouth - so wondered if anyone knew what
direction the ride was heading this year?.. and also where the nearest
registration point would be to the ferry terminal, which I guess would
be Fishbourne?

You might find it a lonely ride...........isn't the 30th April this year??

Clockwise. It was anitclockwise last year. Have fun on the ride.
I plan to be there myself - have pity on the black clad rider or a Claud
Butler you see expiring at the side of the road.

Do you mean 30th April? That's the big one.
The site is not up-to-date yet but is at:
http://www.cycleisland.co.uk/

This year should be clockwise, which is reckoned to be the easier
direction.

It's alraedy marked on our family calendar and we'll probably be riding
down again and go over on the Southampton/Cowes - there's a good simple
campsite just down the road from a superb pub at Northwood :)

If you take the Portsmouth/Fishbourne ferry, which many seem to on the
morning of the ride, the nearest checkpoint is at Havenstreet.

Anyone else riding it?

It's a permanently (sp?) sign posted route, but the "Isle of Wight
Randonnee" this year is on 30th April. (It's the Sunday of the Early
May Bank Holiday, and this year 1st May is the bank holiday).

Anyway, last year's ride was anti-clockwise, so this year is
clockwise. Best registration point for Pomtsmouth-Fishbourne is
Havenstreet, only a couple of miles.

Havenstreet is a couple of miles from Fishbourne (all uphill) best
place to start IMO in either direction (they swap direction each year),
signposted from the ferry. If you get the 0800 Pompey car ferry there
is a mass bike start as soon as the ramp goes down. The RTIR is the
best organised mass ride in the South IMO. The Catermeran is also Ok
but the pier at Ryde eats wheels.

enjoy ;-)

'fraid not if it's the 30th, Severn Across 400 (although it is just
possible to do both!)
