Left Hand Ergopower Failure - Diagnosis ?

My front 2000 Chorus ErgoPower brifter failed suddenly after about
21,000 miles of use. I went to shift to the big ring, heard a snap, and
the shift lever had lost all ratcheting - no clicks when moving it, not
pulling cable, cable remains slack. At first I thought I had just
broken the cable, but this wasn't the case. It had been working fine
till then, not a case of gradual spring fatigue (my right needs a
rebuild every 7500 miles or so and I'm familiar with this.) I have it
at the shop for a rebuild but they won't be able to turn it around fast
(the senior mechanic who rebuilds Ergo levers only there
intermittently). I've shelled out for a set of Record levers since I
have one of my main season goal races this weekend, but will still use
the old levers for spares, etc. Anyone had this type of failure or can
any of the NG sages tell me what happened ? Thanks in
advance..........Lou D'Amelio

Pretty sure the spring carrier broke, EC-RE-112, not unheard of. Send
it to me and I'll OVh it and return the next day.
