Were I to set up a "commuting bike" (it would be my fourth bike and my wife would go spare) I'd probably put on some Cateye ABS25's (three items: 2 lights and the switch) but I'd mount the lights on a Spacebar (does that count as an item?), as well as a basic cycling 'puter (maybe a Mity 8). Any more than that and I'd have to start stripping off bar tape.

Do you find that all of that gear affects your steering response?

That makes six. When I add the GPS ... or attach the bar bag
full of rubbish it'll be more. Sometimes I just hang the
digital camera bag from the handlebars via the belt loop.

This is probably stretching the definition of attached
a bit far.

I don't think it does. Certainly I don't notice any
difference on the days I commute with no lights. I tend
take corners in a very careful way anyway, keeping as
upright as possible.

Yup, when set up for night off-roading I have: 2x brake
levers 2x gear shifters 2x 10w Cateye lamps fed from
SLAs. 1x switch for above 1x Cateye standard halogen lamp
"just in case".

I never have more than a computer. OK, maybe a pair of tri-
bars, but they come off after a TT.

I too was just thinking "what about hands?". Mine has
brakes too, and gear levers, nyah. And cork tape - that's
gear innit? A total of 10 bits of gear & I don't even
have a computer. Sometimes I hang a supermarket bag on
it, but calling that gear that would perhaps be
stretching a point...

I have a practical reason not to put stuff there, my
daughter still rides on the cross-bar seat quite often and I
have a second set of handlebar grips inside the shifters for
here to grab onto. wouldn't work with all that stuff there.

I've got four front lights[1] and two computers on the
Trice, but none of them is mounted on the handlebars...

1 - is this a record?

No, 'fraid not. I once had an "I wish I had my camera"
moment when i saw two bikes each with 7 lamps up front. Now
I *am* Mr Visibility himself but 7 is OTT IMHO.
