In this particular case, what's a person to do? Tomorrow, I'm looking
into using the system for the first time in my entire life. It's
either that, or I'll be dead in about 6 months to a year. I don't
have any other options.Suddenly, $300 a month looks cheap. That is only a couple of visits and
a blood test. An ER visit can be $1000 or more. Even a short hospital
stay can be $8k or more. Drugs alone can cost you more than $300 a
month. All of what you say is true, and I know the figures. Regardless, there are
many people for whom even $300/month isn't affordable.Quoted message said:Depending on coverage, a family plan can easily be $600 to $900 a month.
We just went through our annual "reallignment" of insurance coverage where
I work. Until this year, my employer payed the entire amount for me as an
individual, although I would have had to pay for spouse or dependent
children. This year employees now will pay about $25.00 per pay (bi-
weekly) for their own coverage, certainly a more than fair amount. Another
option is offered that my employer will pay completely, but the deductible
is outrageous.
This past year was the first that state employees in RI had to pay for
medical coverage. Combined coverage for myself and the SO is $64 a
month. Our copays went a little crazy though, particulary for
prescription drugs.
The coverage we get is excellent though.
