I just picked up a Park Tool PCS-1 repair stand (2003 model). Is it just me, or is this thing way
too tall for the average non-NBA person? I'm about 178cm (~6ft) tall, and even with the telescoping
tube at its lowest setting (supposedly 140cm/54", though it looks more like 150cm), it's too high to
reach e.g. the headset comfortably. Even if I angle the front of the bike downward. I've used
different stands before (at bike shops) and they were all way shorter than this one. Apparently they
made this year's model higher than last year's (in addition to adding the telescoping feature). If I
actually raised this thing to its maximum height, I probably wouldn't be able to lift the bike high
enough to clamp the frame! My guess is when Park Tool sent the specs off to the manufacturer, they
were off by a foot or two. Or maybe they sent some of the measurements in metric, and the factory
assumed Imperial. Unfortunately the top of the main tube is flanged, so I can't just hacksaw it to
the desired height :(
