You know, I think part of this for me is that I am a real "caretaker" personality on a lot of levels. I don't like crowds, but have learned to tolerate them. I do feel a need for the accountability, but I would have that with my friends and here. The thing that is Scary to me, is letting down those people at my meeting. When I think of not going, the next thought is of my leader, and how she kind of leans on Me now when she has a down time.......

The differences between individuals is what makes us individual. One reason I'm doing so well this time is that I'm NOT going to meetings. I'm at the extreme end of Introvert, so being around all those people de-motivates me. In my previous weight loss efforts, I've never gone as far as I have this time, and I'm still motivated to continue. Even in Overeaters Anonymous, my last most successful effort, I got down to the mid-170s and then froze with anxiety. I just got to the point where I couldn't face people every week with my food issues. Yet I find the support of others, such as the folks in this NG, to be invaluable. Daily point tracking online and communicating here are my rules. I'm pretty sure I'll always need to do some sort of journaling after I reach goal, whether it's WW Online or a food tracking software such as Diet Power. I have a feeling I'll always need the support of others, too.

Well, and Lifetimers do provide inspiration to the others. Just like earlier folks served as inspiration to us and others. It takes a village to lead to weightloss.

I also remember the woman who inspired me several times while losing, all through 2002 in fact.... She was tall like I am, and in a size 10 clothes, lifetime, and very active, also like me. She stopped coming in 2003, although she had been weighing in monthly and many times more frequently during 2002. Then showed up again in Dec. of 2003 after gaining back 40 pounds.............. She has been unable to take it back off. Since I never made it to goal before, and I am telling myself that it is what is going to keep my weight off, after losing and regaining over and over my entire life, I don't want to put myself to the test. If this is not it, I don't know how I would get the "belief" again that I could do it? Making any sense?

That is hard to hear but honest. It is not only hard to hear but I guess hard to stick with it over and over and month after month and year after year. The point struck home a bit again yesterday when the thought flashed through my dense head that "I wish I could eat brownie bites (substitute any food here) like I use to!" And I quickly reminded myself "That you never could just eat that stuff without penalty - you just ate it and got fat!" But the issues are there, aren't they.
Meeting's in a bit and I will be there!

The question is Why is that? I know there is no answer but you have to wonder why the behaviors/habits can't be stomped out nice and neatly.
Is there a setpoint? Are there hormones? Are fat cells starving to death?
It would be "easier" to know it is a chemical issue rather than purely mental or would that just make the excuses easier?

Interesting stats and your observation on leaders who seem to maintain. I gather some of them become leaders because they are required to maintain.
Like all the interim goals, I would like to hit ONE YEAR and then take it week after week after month from there. I keep thinking this should not be impossible or that hard and then there are other days. I keep knowing this is normal eating and that I'm definitely not starving. I am getting variety. What I'm not getting in the ability to just do what I want when I want with food. To throw caution to the wind and to just eat potato chips and cheese in quantities that do not make sense but who requires sense?
Keep plugging away.

Well this is one place where all the reading I do online and in my CE stuff for my nursing license comes in handy. I read Somewhere that if a person maintains a weight loss, each year that they maintain increases their chances of long term success. After 5 years chances of it staying off get very very good. Much like remission from cancer statistics actually, only they first year or two it is much worse than the remission statistics.
So I am looking for that five year mark, then I will think about trying to mess with no meetings, if I still want to....
I have noticed that leaders tend to be people who are either newly slender, or very long term slender (like the one in our area who has been at goal over 20. There are not a whole bunch of them who are 3 or 4 years at goal.

That is hard to hear but honest. It is not only hard to hear but I guess hard to stick with it over and over and month after month and year after year. The point struck home a bit again yesterday when the thought flashed through my dense head that "I wish I could eat brownie bites (substitute any food here) like I use to!" And I quickly reminded myself "That you never could just eat that stuff without penalty - you just ate it and got fat!" But the issues are there, aren't they.
Meeting's in a bit and I will be there!

That is hard to hear but honest. It is not only hard to hear but I guess hard to stick with it over and over and month after month and year after year. The point struck home a bit again yesterday when the thought flashed through my dense head that "I wish I could eat brownie bites (substitute any food here) like I use to!" And I quickly reminded myself "That you never could just eat that stuff without penalty - you just ate it and got fat!" But the issues are there, aren't they.
Meeting's in a bit and I will be there!
