I tried the plastic version of these and didn't like them - I think this came up on mfw once. If I can find them and anyone would like them, they're free to the first person to pay the postage . I got a chance to use the metal versions at a meet in the warmup room and, while they were OK, they took just a little too much concentration (that's not the right word but...) to open, but maybe I just need to get used to them.
I agree. The more the plates push against them, the harder they lock up. The downside is that, when you've dropped the bar after several deadlifts and locked them up tight, it's a lot tougher to pop out the flange that unlocks them. --

Right - that's what I remember from the meet warmups I mentioned. I drop the bar pretty hard and they were a bit tough to get off - not as hard as the plastic ones, mind you, but still harder than I generally want to deal with.

Yeah but they aint coming off when you squat! The reason I got these (someone actually mailed me a pair for free) was because I'd dumped a squat backwards and the plates went crashing all over because the spring clips had no business holding big plates and change on each side. Bent my favorite bar too.
They are actually pretty easy to deal with once you get used to them. I can do them one handed.

Actually, I started using my plastic ones again a few days ago. No problem w/ 300 lbs. for a few reps today, came right off. I'm going to keep using them since I've already got them and see how it goes - and, funny you should mention it, I got mine for free, too.
