I bought a 1998 TREK 2300 in year 2000. I considered buying a 2000 model
when I got my 1998. Let's see, the TREK 2300 has always been a 100%
ultegra bicycle with an ICON carbon fork in 1998, and TREK carbon fork
in later years. In 1999-2002, it was alpha aluminum, in 2003, it became
100% ZR9000 Aluminum, substantially lighter.

In 1999, I believe it had the same generic wheels as my 2300, e.g.
Shimano Ultegra hubs with Mavic CXP22 rims. Starting in 2000, it had
bontrager low-spoke exotic wheels. Stem is ICON. Headset on mine was a
Tange. Otherwise, the Ultegra gruppo was complete. Seat was TREK / Selle
San Marco or Bontrager (Trek house brand atop probably selle san marco).
Handlebars are ICON. That covers about 90% of the components. The bike
didn't change much from 2000-2002. The alpha aluminum frameset, with its
triangular downtube, sure was ugly, though.
