Road tyres vs Mountain Bike Tyres

Which would you prefer when you commute to work on your mountain bike?

I tried 2" slicks on an mtb. I don't like them much compared to a roadie or an mtb with 1.5 slicks. They feel so massive.


I would however definitely go with a kevlar belted narrow slick unless there's so much sand that it's impractical to either push or just take it easy & bike over carefully.

One of my spare commuter bikes is an old downhiller and is shod with these Dutch Perfect SRI-47. Part of my commute goes through a nature reserve with pretty much potholed paths, lots of sand, and outside there, on the flat, it is often strewn with broken glass too.

Just changed from road tyres to Mountain bike tyres. Realised that I had to cycle harder but somehow I managed to achieve similar speeds!

I've been running Michelin TransWorld City on my commuter MTB, but living near Seattle, I spend a lot of time in the rain. They're great on wet pavement, not bad on hardpack, fairly puncture resistant, inexpensive, and the reflective sidewall is a real bonus!
