Rule 162 is accompanied by a drawing showing use of left lane to take
the second exit. But the text only says you must use the left lane for
the first exit. So you are within your rights to use the right lane
for the second exit. I don't understand why motor vehicles aren't
doing the same.

I think the old advice to cyclists was to get to the middle and stay
there until your exit (unless taking the first exit). This minimises
the number of conflict points, but can make getting to your exit quite
tricky.

Indeed. That's rule 62.

As another hint, the previous rule, 61, contrasts keeping to the left
to "the correct procedure", i.e, like a car.

Thank you all for your support it has all been re-assuring.
It happened around two weeks ago so I think it is a bit too late complain to
either police or company but I am sure I will come across the thug again as
the company office is on the same Industrial Estate as the were I work and
if their is a reoccurrence I will definitely take your advice.

Having said that, on some roundabouts I take the outer lane. It's all a
matter of
assessing each roundabout and its approaching individually.

The driver was a bit naughty in his behaviour but hardly worth losing
sleep
over.

I assume the 4X4 driver is one of the company directors, it was black and
flash. (The 4X4 that is)

You could try contacting the company and registering a complaint. I
wouldn't bother.

to slap me across the back, I took the registration. The police were
very helpful, treating it as an assault, and were round at the guy's
workplace the following day and his house the following night.

When that happened to me, the police refused to take a report over the
phone. After going out of my way to visit a police station (my local
police station isn't open to the public), I never heard any more about
it, despite having given details of witnesses :-(
