  1. I was talking to a parent of one of our Varsity runners yesterday and
he mentioned George Sheesan or something like that as the Philosopher
of running. Anyone else worth reading for enjoyment while I am out?

George was a doctor and a runner. He wrote many articles in Runner's
World and elsewhere about running. For many years he experienced
frequent urination and told all the male runners they had to get used
to this as they aged. You would think a freaking doctor would be smart
enough to get his prostate checked with such chronic symptoms.
Eventually, he did discover that he had prostate cancer and he died of
the disease because he waited too long. I discount everything he ever
said by 50% because of his basic stupidity.

  3. I'm not sure if right left right left is a philosophy.

I know you joggers are all about making your hobby as interesting and
meaningful as possible, but it's still just walking, only slightly
    faster.

Wow! How ironic! What you do is something like thinking, only much
    slower.

    Anne,
Just take a pic of your ass, or any ass off the net, and send or post
it to him. Knebel will be busy doing god-knows-what for a few weeks or
months, and will be too busy to harass you.

I believe George Sheehan is the one who originated the statement that
the difference between a jogger and runner is a bib or registration form
or whatever. Later in life, after his cancer diagnosis, he revised that
to three stages - jogger, racer, runner (or something along those
lines). The idea being that a runner doesn't need races.

The only George Sheehan book I've read is "Running to Win," which
provided some interesting perspectives, definitely different from other
    running books I've read.

"Once a Runner" - John Parker - "currently unavailable" - might try your
library or any other runner (seems like a classic novel that is liked by
newbies to veterans, tracks to roads to trails, sprinters to ultrarunners)

"Running Wild" - John Annerino - if you're interested in long trail
    running wild in American southwest.

I haven't read "Running with the Buffaloes", but it seems to get
    recommended a lot.

Your post title suggested something more along the lines of scientific
    theory. I like
"Better Training for Distance Runners" - Martin and Coe
    "Lore of Running" - Noakes

If you can find one, I'd recommend at least one Lydiard book - if
nothing else, so many people have misinterpreted Lydiard, that I think
it's good to read the original. Here's the list on amazon.com
    http://tinyurl.com/23wzll
where you can see that many of his classics are hard to find so getting
premium prices from folks who have a copy and know what it is. The book
that I think Nobby (Lydiard Foundation) recommends for the basics is
"Run to the Top". Check e-bay (2 copies just went for $40, iirc) and
other places periodically as well as local used book shops. I got the
newer version ("Running to the Top"😉 when it was still normally priced a
couple years ago. That book was instrumental for me. I just recently
(this month) got his Master's and Women's version (some overlap, as I
suspected; but figured I'd get them while still reasonably priced), and
I noticed that his Young Athletes version is over $200. You might keep
an eye out on Lydiard Foundation page for reasonably accurate
    information on his approach: http://www.lydiardfoundation.org/index.html
although not a book. There was a discussion on CR recently about getting
some of these books out again, but it's not within control of anyone
    concerned.

Read "once a runner" if you haven't already. A must-read.

If you can track down a video of "The Supermilers", that's well worth seeing.
Features footage from every mile record from Bannister to Coe, and all of them
are interviewed. It was a 1hr British TV show, so it's kind of hard to get.

    Cheers,

Don't confuse that with the all male action flick I like so much, "The

Yes. They're all marked by a limited range of expression. Mostly, he's
the guy who still thinks sex is such a big deal, he photographs it for
his records. He can't believe it himself: he got laid.

We don't know if he had to pay for it or not.
