[WTD] Second hand town bike

Morning all.

Can anyone suggest good (cheap) sources for second hand town bikes? I need
to get one for my daughter who has gone of to university in London. I was
trying to find out about the police auctions of stolen property but can't
find any info on that.

I'm in East anglia and obv. London is also an option.

Thanks.

Paul

That's always looked like a total waste of time to me. Surely the
answer is to go to Brick Lane rather than waiting for the police to do
their job? ;^>

In a word, ebay.

Always some bikes here, though quality varies widely week-to-week.

Have a look at gumtree
http://www.gumtree.com/london/2516_1.html
These are mainly private sales, so you should know little bit about bikes
to assess quality of the offers.

I've just got myself a cracking Dawes 10-speed which I've just converted
to a single-speed commuter - all I've spent on it is a tenner for some
new tyres.

The last time I looked on Gumtree for a bike, I emailed a few sellers to
ask a few questions including "Do you have any proof of purchase for the
bike". The lack of answers was interesting to say the least.

I couldn't provide proof of purchase for any of my bikes either. I
might be able to find paperwork for my SO's bikes, because they were
bought new in the last few years, but none of mine were.

I still have the receipt for my bike bought in 1986 - I'm sure that was
all they gave me. A look in my LBS window suggests that these days,
Evans provides an owner's pack in a nice case with each bike sold.

I am a moderator on the Peterborough Freecycle and we have had at least
a dozen bikes on there offered in the last month, have had 2 in the last
24 hours.

So a good source possibly for you to try. You can post a wanted notice
as well saying what your after rather than just waiting for somebody to
offer one.
