cycling after all these years.
I went back to physics as a vocation, but I still love bikes and
biking.
Quoted message said:I noticed you spelled Masi with a "Z" Mazi, is there a reason for that? I've
always thought it to be Masi California. Also when you were making frames
for Masi did you get a chance to work with Mario Confente? I'm just curious
with a physics major why you chose to build frames?
Sorry, the Z was just brain fade.
Yes, I worked with Mario. He taught me frame brazing. He was quite an
interesting guy, and I was in a real funk when I heard that he had
died so young, He was just one year older than me.
I've always been attracted by mechanical things, and bicycles combine
external apparent simplicity with great internal hidden subtleties.
People who think they are actually simple are only scratching the
surface.
Physics is the practice of digging below the surface, but if you work
at SLAC you already know that.
My jigs are currently dormant, but I still have them. Someday I hope
to retire and go back to this simpler art form, hoping that lugged
frames and the appreciation of frames as both an esthetic and a
mechanical engineering endeavor may someday return.
I realize that the chances of this are slim. ;-)
