Just got home from a dawn service. Massive turnout including young families with kids which is great to see

I'm in Tauranga, population about 120,000. We had two dawn services, one run by each of our two RSA branches (RSL for you dingo donger munchers). The one I went to would have had at least 1500 turn up.

Yep Paulie, a good number of veterans, although there are not many WWII vets surviving. I would say most that were there had served in Korea, Vietnam and more recent conflicts.

Yes. For sure. But what I meant was, did either of your grandads serve in either World War (or elsewhere)? My mother's father, Roy Herbert Hills, served as a sapper in both wars. He signed up underage for the 1st and was at the Western front. The he did the same in the 2nd and ended up in the same trenches. And lived to tell the tales. He was born in 1900 and died in 1986. A bloody good effort.

I get ya. My dad served in WWII, including 4 years as a guest of Stalag XVIIIa after being captured in Greece. He died in 1967 aged 51. The war did his physical and mental health no favours.

I wrote something along the lines of you need to ask questions about t mobile and ferrari as well. Then I wrote he's been kissed on the wedding tackle. It probably got moderated.

The closest my dad got was his 2 "nasho" years at Puckapunyal, around 1960 (I think).

God, 51! So young. And you would have been pretty young too, I gather, when he left this world?
