Tried to fix that last post. Too late. -
Yeah, sorry Beeps. I'm with Classic. I won't watch it either. I've said it elsewhere... he's not a sociopath as many people say. Calling him that gives him an excuse, like saying someone is autistic. He's chosen to be the way he is. He's just a little man; a cruel man; a self-absorbed bully. He viciously went after other people - as Classic said, went out of his way to ruin others lives.
I just wish he would go away and die. Quietly.

Oh, by the way. One of my best mates is an EPO researcher. Probably one of the world's leading authorities. But his research relates to what it was intended for: therapeutic use for people with low RBCs caused by trauma, kidney or bone disease, gastro-intestinal problems etc. In his case, it's about trauma.
He was telling me if it wasn't for cycling, we probably still wouldn't know that EPO could be safely injected directly into a vein. In the early days, the riders used it by injecting into the flesh (bum, abdomen, arm etc). But when it became detectable, they had to resort to micro-dosing which involved much smaller doses injected straight into the blood stream. No one had done that before the peloton did.
I am sure there are other things they're using now which haven' been through clinical trials. The stuff won't be on the banned list because it won't have been approved for human use (that was the get-out-of-jail-free card for Essendon). And the riders will have convinced themselves that they're not cheating because they're not taking anything banned. My guess is it won't be a substance or process that works on the red blood cells. It'll be something that improves the efficiency of the mitochondria.

Hinault was the last great rider who you can say to yourself "that was all him, no help". Maybe Fignon too. Only maybe though. So my line is at Hinault. Therafter, I assume every performance was augmented.
I am sure a [censored] of riders used amphetamines in days of yore. But apart from making riders insane, it didn't give any greater athletic capacity. Not like steriods or EPO or blood transfusions.
-
Hinault. Cortisone and testosterone. At least when he was at Renault. Maybe not when at La Vie Claire.
Fignon. Cortisone and amphetamine, the latter in training at least. The theory goes if you have a clout in training you can train harder.
This is why I get [censored] on the heads in the sand AFL fans who say 'oh (insert drugbag player here) wasn't taking stuff on game day. Ice and coke are only "recreational"'.
-
Oh. Sigh. I thought it was only amphetamines with Hinault.
Yeah, the AFL's monitoring policy is laughable. I read it a while back and seem to recall that you could not be where you said you would be, and hence unavailable for a random test, three times before you were in trouble. It doesn't get any more favourable for cheats.
-
Sorry for that drunken ranting. I don't dare read any of it again. I certainly regretted last nights excess when I just had to do a couple of hours work crawling under a floor.
I think a very quiet new years eve is in order. Might see if my leg muscles have recovered enough to cope with a ride around the harbour to watch some fireworks tonight. Doc actually prescribed me a week of prednisolone to try to get them all working again. Might not even be worth taking bikes to Tassie at this rate. -
Oops. I meant Happy New Year Tannerso_O

You too mate!
Are any of you guys going to the bay crits?
-
woo hoooooooo!! Our jig got cancelled a few weeks ago.. I didn't wanna jinx it by celebrating too soon.
In fact, there's still a chance that the phone could ring. 😄This is the first time in about 15 years that I haven't had a NYE gig. HA. No farkin mayhem trying to get my gear through 10,0000000 [censored]-heads, then trying to get home alive; or no 4 or 5-hour drive to butt-fark Southern NSW in the heat.
The downside is that I'll be down several hundred bucks (joints pay at least double or triple on NYE, coz the demand for musos is obviously so high), but I don't really care at the moment.

This is probably probably pathetic, but what puts me off that stuff is seeing all the try-hard plonkers in the crowd with their coloured bangles and Rapha flog-[censored] on. 😄Back in my day, cycling was mostly a bogan sport, so I could go to a velodrome without seeing someone like this. :p
-
I wouldn't avoid her. Yum.
And yes, Steve. I'm gunna try and get to Eastern Park (No. 2) and Portarlington (No. 3). Alas, I'll be at work for No. 4 at Williamstown, which is just down the road from my joint.
And I'll be going to the Nationals on Sunday the 10th.
And the Prologue for the Hun Tour which is at Southbank on Wednesday the 3rd of February. Then the 3rd Stage, Traralgon-Inverloch, on Saturday the 6th of February.

The thing with any sport is it's up to the organisation to choose how they police the rules. The AFL policy is laughable - they purport to be a legit sport, basically turn a blind eye to recreational drugs, and then get all butthurt when their "role models" behave like spastics in public. Duh. Tennis is pretty smelly too, if you look beyond the surface. Almost NO out of competition testing, and, when there is, you just need the Panic Room defense a la Serena "Never Tested Postitive" Williams.
http://nypost.com/2011/11/02/serena-williams-locks-herself-in-panic-room-in-drug-test-mix-up/ -
Timely. The old man set my cousins husband straight on tennis last night. Tennis fan with his head in the sand . Mentioned Williams, the us tennis federation doing in 2013 I think only 14 out of companies tests, mentioned agassi being on meth half his career etc. And an AAP journalist no less. 'go use them journalism skills and do some research'. Lolz.
The other furphy head in the sand fans roll out (tennis, swimming and AFL ones are the worst) is the old 'coke and ice are only recreational drugs'. It goes back to what I said the other night about having a clout so you train harder and push aside the pain. They also help strip off fat.
-
Competition, not companies
-
That's why I don't write for AAP
