My 'Beach Road Only' friend took this Trek of his in to the shop because the chain catcher didn't do it's farkin job, and the chain dropped, taking a tiny bit of carbon and paint off the stay. They told him the following day that 5 of the aluminium nipples on his front wheel are cracked! Fark!! Farkin alu nipples, just to save a few grams. [censored] like that does my head in.

Especially the regular sized ones. From what i know, the chunkier ones on the old Kysriums and some of the Campag are more robust, but apparently, some of them fused on the spokes and into the rims

Kysriums aren't square and don't work with a normal nipple key, you need a special mavic tool. Dunno about Campag, although I know Boras are [censored]

Anyway, aluminium galvanises which is why they fuse to the spoke and they are too soft and round off the flats on the nipples when you try to get any tension in the spokes. When i briefly worked in a bike shop had to rebuild a wheelset under warranty. The customer had flash carbon rim wheels that had high spoke tension and the nipples would let go all the time. Disconcerting when it happens when you are riding, worse when it happens when you are simply driving around with your bike in the back of the car and a nipple explodes. Anyway, apparently he hasn't had any trouble since I rebuilt the wheels with brass nipples. I may have built them.with slightly less tension too, because they were retardedly tight.

I can't say that I was scared. Maybe there wasn't time to be scared?

Looking at a video of the incident, it's no surprise that I broke a bone because I was launched up into the air and came down at a rather steep angle.

Now you are getting me nervous as I have Bontrager Aeolus RSL wheels on my bike. I've never had a alloy spoke crack, but I have had alloy wheels crack around the spokes.

Those Ksyriums were pretty robust until the freehub shafts went undersize and the rear shifting went to seed. The wheels were absolute windsocks.

I've had a couple of falls going that quick. One on the track at Latrobe, another in the sprint at Melbourne to Ballarat. I had just enough time to think "this is gonna hurt" but not enough time and space to avoid them. Can't say I had time to think in the other eleventy five falls I had.

Had to laugh the other week. Folks stopped in Yea. Mum rings and goes "nice town, not much more than an old railway station and an old bush hospital". I go "I know. I got sewed up in that hospital".

EDIT; rewatched it. Looking at the big lion of flanders flag did WVA sprint down the wrong side of the road? If he sprinted down the other side he may not have got shelter off the barrier but it would have forced Powless to sprint in the wind.

That too, but I didn't see the final. Not sure i subscribe to this WVA is finished stuff, but he's not 100%. Can't see him being there in Flanders, but might improve by Roubaix.

There's some very weird spamming going on in the Equipment sub-forum about short cranks. :p Since Feb, there has been over 250 new threads started on the topic, with many of the thread having tenuous relationships to crank length. And all have been started, and contributed to, by new members. It's if not one person, then it ain't many.

Nope. Never even heard of it and have ridden or driven that road literally hundreds of times. If the camp is actually up Darlimula road a bit I've rarely gone down there as the road is dirt at the Boolarra end so avoided it. There's a [censored] huge tree about 1-2kms from the main road with one of those enormous 10m+ wide trunks like you see in early settler pictures.

The bloke talks about the Delburn fires. They were a week or so before the Churchil Black Saturday fire, a completely separate event and fire complex. All those news clips of the burned Koala getting a drink were Delburn, not Churchill as some reported in the media.

Worrabinda near Lake Narracan and a scout camp which name escapes me near Erica near the confluence of the branches of the Tyers river were two I went to in Primary school. My schools also used to go to Somers on Phillip Island and some other one I think religious loonies ran near Labertouche or Tonimbuk which are North of the Princes Hwy between Pakenham and Drouin. Mill Valley I think the latter was called.

There was a storm that went through Mirboo North January 2024 that was incredible. Cyclonic. Hundreds of trees down. Not a leaf left on the trees still standing at the public pool. Every house in the street near the pool damaged. I had an insurance job on my kitchen last year. The project manager for repairs had dozens of jobs up there. Poor [censored] had the initial repairs, then were finding mould due to water damage 6 months later.

I bumped into the CEO of Gippsland Water weeks after it. She said she'd never seen anything like it, and we'd not long had an off the chart storm in 2021 when I was working at council that washed away roads and took down trees in 200m swathes around Yinnar and Boolarra.

I saw one of those “help a battler” type shows on TV not that long ago that fixed up someone’s place in Mirboo Nth after the storms. The footage of the damage to the town was crazy!

Nice town. So is Boolarra. You go out there summer or autumn and think "this is alright". Then winter hits. Fark! Mirboo North is on top of the ridge. Boolarra is in a hole. Both freezing. Mirboo North pool would have to be one of the nicest public pools in the state. The local council was trying to close it.
